Maybe not so new news

Breaking news from Cambodia can be found here. CEO often finds Khmer news and translates it into English for our readers if it is interesting to expats, locals, Cambodians living abroad and anyone who wants to stay informed of the latest local and international news stories about Cambodia and our neighbors in South East Asia. There are many sources for Khmer news articles and they can all be found here in one place. Most of the media comes out of Phnom Penh, Siem Reap or Sihanoukville, but we cover national Cambodian news from all provinces.

Thanks for that Luigi. While it's not new it is more intense, especially so this "Lee Morgenbesser, a research fellow at Australia’s Griffith University who studies authoritarian regimes, said U.S. citizens living in Cambodia “should certainly have an exit strategy.”"
As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.

come on; you serious think HE will do anything to jeopardize the huge amount of aid the US goverment gives him ?
.....In the same speech, he also suggested the U.S. Peace Corps should pull out of Cambodia
this makes ZERO sense .
the Peace corps is in every country at the invitation of that country and if HE wants them out
their gone.
HE is just like a little dog that barks and barks :beer3:

Yes but sometimes logic doesn't matter. It's the domestic rhetoric that counts - ie. how the discourse is seen and appreciated by voters in Cambodia.
Nationalist discourse is used everywhere - find an enemy and defend the country. The latest enemy is the US.

The anti-US rhetoric by the authorities should be a concern for US expats in Cambodia I think. My opinion only. No scaremongering, but watch the direction of the wind.

The US government has not given any large amounts of aid to Cambodia since the Lon Nol regime (1970-75), unless you count aid to the factions by the border in the 80s- especially when compared to other countries such as USSR/ Japan/ China/ Australia and the EU.
What is more important is trade with the US, and the special status and tax-breaks Cambodian exports to there get are hugely important to the current garment industry.
The Peace corps is in every country at the invitation of that country and if HE wants them out they're gone.
There hasn't been any follow up to those statements so far. I believe the Peace Corps do invaluable work here, but like many US government institutions come under suspicion of having ulterior motives or being attached to the intelligence agencies.

Of course it's a possibility but unless you are directly involved with one of the organizations (RFA, VOA, etc) that are under scrutiny, I don't believe it's an issue just yet.

Political commentator Meas Nee said support for the current crackdown was far from universal among the cross section of senior military officials he is in contact with, even if they made outward demonstrations of loyalty to the cause.

“They have to express their support although they don’t agree to what has been happening now. Position and wealth are believed to be the key factors where [by] they must support,” he said.

Sadly they must toe the official line to protect themselves from repercussions.

I was beginning to wonder if the recent anti Americanism was something to be worried about as I'm planning to make the move but I think I may just be paranoid since reading "HE’s Cambodia"
