Fun facts about Chinese neighbours

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Do be sure to tell the next spastic who uses the term "racist" to describe someone who has made a culture or nationality-based derogatory remark that they are wrong because there is no such thing as racism and as it's all cultural they all do it so can be castigated and sneered at for their behaviours without fear of opprobrium or sanction. Unless you call them chinks, or monkeys, or something because I suppose then everyone will lose their shit again.

So anyway, about those culturally drink sodden Irish, culturally lazy Mexicans and culturally car stealing black folks...
You aren't allowed to call them "spastics" any more, it's like "retard".

the northern chinese who predominately eat wheat call the southern chinese rice eating monkeys and stereotype them as lazy dirty and shiftless, much like the class system found in UK and India.

Its not a stereotype that the chinese in london love to gamble in betting shops, its a fact. You only need to go into one to see this. I have heard on here that KOW has lots of casinos, who are they for? locals?

The problem is that when people start generalizing about those "nasty rude Chinese" they are never clear about who they are talking about.
Yes. I agree.
To be clear, the Chinese in question are Mainland Chinese. Hong Kong Chinese also find their (lack of) manners obnoxious.
As someone else pointed out, their manners are normal for mainland China.
And like some other countries where the inhabitants were closed to the rest of the world for a period of time, eg. Russians and East Europeans, Mainland Chinese have no idea about adjusting to exterior social norms now they are free to travel outside their country. The problem of integration is cultural and not racial.

I don't know where my new neighbours are from, but the door slamming started at 7am. I wish they spoke English so I could go and yell at them lol

Chinatown is just a small part of Soho. Loads of other businesses operate there. It's got the sleazy angle with the speakeasies, clip-joints and the gay Compton St, but it also has some of the best production and post-production operations in the world. You come across as being very provincial "charlie". Have you ever ventured south of the Watford Gap yourself? :hattip:

What? i know SOHO very well, worked all round the area with my uncle who was the local builder there when i was a kid ( he lived in Meard street' know it?). I also used to go to the Marquee in the late 60s, hung around the "Le Mcabre coffee bar when we used to "hop off" school. I drink in the "blue Posts when i am in the area.

Surely someone here knows how to say STFU :please: in Mandarin. You could also try putting little signs in your building in Chinese saying 'Quiet period from 12 - 8am. Please dont slam doors, shout, or make noise in this time. 'At least you're clear about your expectations. 7am is not early in Cambodia though. Khmer neighbours can be just as loud.
Good luck.
