Sihanoukville facing a trash crisis- Cintri suspending services

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Mountains of trash piling up t Vic Hill casinos. rats, rats, rats.

They fought the dogs and killed the cats,
And bit the babies in the cradles,
And ate the cheeses out of the vats,
And licked the soup from the cook's own ladles.
Split open the kegs of salted sprats,
Made nests inside men's Sunday hats,
And even spoiled the women's chats
By drowning their speaking
With shrieking and squeaking
In fifty different sharps and flats.”

The main problem that any new refuse collection company will face in Sihanoukville is that it is somewhat difficult to determine what is garbage and what is not. Many of the residents, should they remain still for prolonged periods, which, of course, they mostly do, then they could also be collected, as trash.

Entire houses, streets even, are often indistinguishable from items that normal people around the world routinely dispose of. Again, an identification problem.

Should the rubbish collectors be on lunch break, they might legitimately start clearing the food and condiments from the tables of diners at many of the restaurants that are dotted about the city and beach, again as the fare would resemble the waste-bin of a civilised eatery.

The sea itself could be in danger, as the percentage of seawater declines precipitously against detritus. The new waste company would need quite a new and amphibious fleet to undertake the task though.

Still on the subject I am quite proud that after being criticized, my far from living areas oversized rubish shed is finally being praised for its inherent qualities :whistler:
