I'm pretty sure that's a Sambar Rusa Unicolor.
Threatened but not endangered just yet.

That's not the same as the one pictured.

Are they protected ? I was told that some species of deer are legal to hunt and eat.Barang chgout wrote: ↑Tue Sep 05, 2017 7:07 am Yummy! ( not that I'd know, them being protected and all....lol)

Pretty sure they're endangered in Cambodia. What are their numbers here, must be pretty damn low. These sort of incidents happen on a weekly basis where I'm from, so it's kind of funny to hear it making the news here given that it's such a rare occurrence.

It probably is rare for a tourist to run one over. To the locals its just food.Bitte_Kein_Lexus wrote: ↑Tue Sep 05, 2017 9:54 pm Pretty sure they're endangered in Cambodia. I think they are rare. I have done plenty of birding an seeing any animal is always exceptional. Come to think of I do not think I have seen Sambar in Cambodia do I see Eld's Deer every year at their wintering grounds (and I have seen them being hunted there).AndyKK wrote: ↑Tue Sep 05, 2017 10:02 pmIt probably is rare for a tourist to run one over.
