Here's the difference between the CD and the KT. You couldn't make this stuff up (but you could probably copy amd paste it). Anyway, Suos Yara is 100% right, and the score or more papers/media like the Guardian, FT, NYT, RT, AJ, have got it 100% wrong. Well, they're big nosed foreigners. Eveyone knows you need a small, flat nose for a well proportioned democracy.

Somebody somewhere was criticising the CD for its overuse of the word park in one of its articles yesterday. I personally​ am absolutley sick of the government and its mouthpieces use of the word law. See how many times it's used in the the below article, let alone in every government response to a problem that's political, and not once has it ever been applied in truth or honour for political matters in KOW that I can remember. Power politics doesn't do truth and honour, it does ....well ...power.

It’s about the rule of law, not anti-Americanism

There is rising concern over the widespread use of fake news concerning recent political developments in Cambodia. For instance, some news reports purportedly characterise Cambodia’s measures against some international organisations and news outlets as an act of anti-Americanism.

Actually, it is just the practice of the rule of law in Cambodia.

The Cambodian constitution stipulates that “the exercise of personal rights and liberties by any individual shall not adversely affect the rights and freedom of others. The exercise of such rights and liberties shall be in accordance with the law”.

Freedom of speech must be in accordance with the law.

The Law on Associations and Non-Governmental Organisations adopted in 2015 provides a legal framework to better govern the activities of NGOs in Cambodia and in turn generate greater positive impacts on society. The state has a responsibility to ensure that civil society organisations are operated smoothly and productively under the rule of law.

Civil society groups have played significant roles in the socio-economic development of Cambodia since the early 1990s. Democracy and human rights have been gradually promoted, although there are remaining obstacles and challenges to be overcome.

The members of the National Assembly have the responsibility to ensure that the government strictly follows the principles of democracy and human rights as stipulated in the constitution and international treaties.

Cambodian society has embraced democratic values. The government appreciates and respects the principles of human rights and democracy. Political space is provided and enabled for social actors to engage and contribute in building the country together.

The state-society relationship has been strengthened over time.

The individuals and organisations that are found to be violating the laws are responsible before the law. No one is above the law. Everyone is equal before the law.

The law is created to govern the country for the betterment of the whole society, without discrimination. There is no public order without the rule of law.

Unfortunately, some organisations and individuals are from or related to the US. Hence, some seasonal analysts and self-imposed experts on Cambodia opine that Cambodia is carrying out anti-American propaganda and plans.

It is not true by all accounts.

Cambodia has regarded the US as the most powerful superpower in the world. As a small state, Cambodia must build good relations with the US for its own survival and interest.

Currently, no country can compete with the US’s smart power, the combination of hard and soft powers.

Cambodia views the US as the core, responsible actor in maintaining peace and stability in the region.

The US is one of the main markets for Cambodian exports, particularly textile products. Bilateral economic ties have been strengthened remarkably in the past decade.

The bilateral trade volume reached $3 billion in 2016, while the total US investment capital was $122 million. The people bonds between the two countries are also significant.

There is no reason for Cambodia to carry out anti-Americanism given it does not serve Cambodia’s national interests at all. Strategic diversification and partnership with all major powers serve Cambodia’s long-term strategic interests.

Cambodia just wants the US to respect its sovereignty and independence. As members of the United Nations, we need to treat each other based on the “principle of the sovereign equality”.

Regardless of size, power and wealth, all nation states should have equal sovereignty.

“All members shall refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state,” stipulates the UN Charter.

Historical memory remains fresh among Cambodians. The US intervention in Cambodia’s domestic politics in late 1960s and early 1970s, and in the following decades, caused huge damage to the Cambodian people.

The US was responsible for the past atrocities in Cambodia. But instead of reconciling the past, the US keeps asking to pay the “dirty debt” of about $500 million. The US’s demand for Cambodia to pay the debt incurred during the war was morally unjustifiable.

It damages the global image of the US as a superpower.

While the US is lecturing the world about democracy and human rights, at home there are serious violations of human rights and democracy. It is advisable that the US should keep its house in order first before lecturing others about democracy.

A country cannot exercise its global role effectively if it does not have unity and order at home.

Mutual respect is critical in maintaining global peace and order. If we allow major powers to bully small countries, then our world will become an anarchic world.

We need to respect international laws and the rule of the law. Cambodia is doing its part to ensure that peace and order is preserved under the rule of law, not by forces or coercion.

As a member of the parliament of an independent and sovereign state, I call upon the US Congress to be prudent and cautious in taking decisions on Cambodia based on one-sided views and fake news.

Cambodia respects the leadership role of the US in maintaining peace and promoting prosperity in the Asia Pacific region and would like to see the US actively engaged in the region for common interests.

Meanwhile, Cambodia needs the US to respect the sovereignty and independence of other states and wishes to see the US to be the anchor of a just and fair international order.

It's a good joke, lol, but that's the US government, not the democratic process in itself. It's a fine line to be sure - what with media monopoly, war, economic shenanigans etc, but Americans do get to vote governments out. There is a distinction there. Imagine if Trump were to remain President for the next thirty years.

Oh the horror! Another point besides the vote is the system of checks and balances which have stymied much of his proposed legislation. Though his executive and PR skills contributed heavily to their demise. I blame the Democratic Party for not choosing a better candidate and am beginning to have doubts about American education.

US denies conspiracy to topple Cambodian government

The US Embassy yesterday hit back at unsubstantiated claims of a United States-backed conspiracy to topple the government disseminated by pro-government media outlet Fresh News, even as local news reported that the Interior Ministry would investigate the purported plot.

In its first public response since the bizarre conspiracy to foment “colour revolution” surfaced via an anonymous Facebook account on Thursday, the US Embassy strongly rejected the suggestion of involvement in regime change in Cambodia and accused the government of using the plot as a distraction from Cambodia’s worsening political situation as the government moves against NGOs and the independent media.

“As we have indicated before, any suggestion that the United States is supporting or has supported revolution is categorically false and is intended to draw attention away from the recent deterioration in Cambodia’s political climate,” embassy deputy spokesman David Josar said via email.

“Revolutions have occurred when ordinary people are denied the opportunity to participate in the political lives of their country. U.S. programs in Cambodia have helped the Cambodian government create just that opportunity.”

The conspiracy claims were first published in Facebook posts from an account named “Kon Khmer”, which translates to “Khmer Child”, before being republished by Fresh News and other local media outlets, many friendly to the ruling Cambodian People’s Party.

Presenting no evidence, the posts allege several groups and individuals, including US freelance journalist Geoffrey Cain, former International Republican Institute Cambodia Director Jackson Cox and US Embassy official Sam Downing, conspired with the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party to create a colour revolution. The term refers to largely nonviolent movements that have ousted regimes in the former Soviet Bloc and parts of the Middle East.

The “Khmer Child” page continued its posts last night, publishing photos of what it claimed were CNRP activists being trained in “colour revolution strategies” last year in Indonesia by members of the Serbia-based Center for Applied Nonviolent Action and Strategies, an NGO that promotes nonviolent protest movements. The post concludes with “wait and see how the authorities of Prime Minister HE will take action against these foreign NGOs”.

The Interior Ministry will focus on unsubstantiated claims that the Cambodia National Rescue Party received funds from a Serbian organisation that promotes nonviolent protest movements, as part of an investigation into a “colour revolution” conspiracy to topple Prime Minister HE, an official said yesterday.

Interior Ministry spokesman Khieu Sopheak, who first revealed the probe to local media on Tuesday, told The Post yesterday that National Police Commissioner Neth Savoeun had been assigned to the case.

“In the past there has been information leaked through the news that the CNRP received money from foreigners or foreigner organisation[s], therefore after receiving this information, the General Administration Department requested the National Police Commission to investigate to see how much information is true,” Sopheak said by phone.

The claim the CNRP received $390,000 from the Belgrade-based Center for Applied Nonviolent Action and Strategies (Canvas) in January 2015 is among several elements of a fantastical conspiracy plot posted anonymously by a Facebook user called “Kon Khmer” – or Khmer Child – and seized upon by government mouthpiece Fresh News, which has republished the posts in full.

The plot accuses the US Central Intelligence Agency and the NGO International Republican Institute of working with the family of CNRP President Kem Sokha to oust the premier.

“[This] is done in form of a colour revolution to create a government ruled by the United States and serving the geopolitical strategy of the US in Asia,” the post reads.

Political observer Meas Ny said Fresh News was now the primary tool for the government to push false information in a bid to gain support, while at the same time tarnishing the CNRP.

“When you look at state television and radio stations, people don’t believe them much [anymore], so now they [the government] start using Fresh News,” he said

I hope they don't get tough on yanks, most I have met have been good people, some of my best friends are yanks.

I've always found them more open than most Brits, not sure why.

Sure they have trailer-trash, but so does every country.

I don't want them sent home, I just want their govt to stop meddling and warmongering to steal resources in the name of 'democracy'.

I suspect most Americans agree with me, they could use the money to rebuild the infrastructure, create free healthcare and education, and provide cheap housing...oh, god, my socialist instincts kicking in again
