Yingluck verdict today POSTPONED she did a runner

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Some state officials were complicit in Yingluck Shinawatra's flight from justice this week and may have facilitated her escape to Cambodia, where she was assisted by people of influence en route to the Middle East, sources told the Bangkok Post on Friday.

"Let's just say the powers that be gave her the green light to go," said a source close to the upper echelons of power in Thai politics.

"If she had been convicted or jailed it would have caused more trouble and social unrest, so letting her leave was considered the best option," the source added.

Do you think it's possible the " command " to allow this to happen came from the very very top because I read once the TOP MAN had a good relationship with her brother and may be her brother called in some favours?

Based on the comments on TV, there seems to be no shortage of 'falang" who are ready to defend the innocence and honor of the Shinawat clan.

Hopefully, we'll see some video footage of these falangs out in the street battling against the junta in the coming months.

Why would you expect that ?
Would they tolerate street battling behaviour by barangs in political activities in Cambodia?

Given the choice between the Shinawat (sic) clan and the military junta, I think it's obvious most Thais would choose Shinawatra, otherwise they wouldn't need the military to prevent it happening.

27 August 2017
Bangkok: Former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra has left her 15 year-old son in Thailand and will seek asylum in the United Kingdom after failing to show up for a negligence trial in which she faced 10 years' jail, according to sources in her party.

Ms Yingluck arrived in Dubai after flying in a private jet via Singapore, sources said...

More rumours.

Cambodia denies harbouring Yingluck
28 August 2017
- Cambodia has denied allowing former Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to transit through the country en route to Dubai after she fled judgement in a court case against her last week.

Thai media have suggested several theories on Ms Yingluck’s escape route via Cambodia.
Some say she entered the country by boat via Koh Kong province. Others said she may have come by helicopter from Thailand’s Trat or Chachoengsao provinces, while another theory is that she drove over the border to Phnom Penh, where she caught a flight out of the country.

There was also the suggestion that she may have obtained a Cambodian passport to help her flee.

Ms Yingluck is said to have left home in Thailand as early as Wednesday night. A warrant for her arrest was not issued until Friday afternoon, which means border and airport officials would have had no reason to alert authorities to her presence.

Interior Ministry spokesman Khieu Sopheak said Ms Yingluck would immediately be sent back to Thailand if she was found hiding in Cambodia.

He added that Cambodia is happy to cooperate with the Thai courts, despite there being no formal agreement to exchange prisoners between the two countries.
Ms Yingluck’s family is known to have close ties to Cambodia...

I was sailing about in the waters about that time, and I didn't see her :) To be honest we had to turn around and moor up behind Koh Kong island due to the sea being so rough.
