Mohanokor Radio Station FM93.5MHz Shut Down By The Government
Phnom Penh:
Ministry of Information shut down the broadcasts of Mohanokor Radio Station FM93.5MHz, slamming the opposition party. An official letter from the government said that the permissions and agreements of Ministry of Information and were violated leaving the government no choice but to close all of the radio stations across Cambodia.
The opposition party has expressed its concerns on the decision of the Ministry of Information that could lead to unfair election of 2018 and control of the freedom of speech.

Other radio stations have also been closed by the government for renting airtime to the opposition party and other organisations without government approval.
Plug pulled on critics’ airtime
24 August 2017
According to a decision issued on Monday, the Information Ministry has closed about 10 radio stations, including ones that were renting airtime to VOA, RFA and the CNRP, as well as the Voice of Democracy news organisation.
Ouk Kimseng, an undersecretary of state at the ministry, said the decision to shut the stations, which broadcast in the capital as well as a number of provinces, was due to them breaking contracts made with the ministry to update it on whom they rented airtime to.
“In the past, those radio stations have discussed exactly with the ministry about any programs and everything else that is not their own, by reporting to the ministry,” he said.
“But now they have always violated that agreement, doing whatever they want, and they did not report to the ministry as stated in the contract.”

Government closes 15 radio stations
25 August 2017
The Ministry of Information yesterday claimed its shuttering of 15 radio stations across the country was not targeted at independent broadcasters, and took aim at the Cambodia Daily for failing to pay a huge tax bill, hours after the US State Department labelled the tax measure exorbitant and biased.
On August 21, Phnom Penh-based Moha Nokor – a radio station airing shows produced by Voice of America, Radio Free Asia and the Cambodia National Rescue Party – and its three provincial affiliates were asked to stop broadcasting and to shut down operations for allegedly violating their contract with the ministry.
Meanwhile, near-identical documents on the Information Ministry’s website showed that seven other media owners were asked to stop broadcasting from the 11 radio stations they owned across 10 provinces, in line with ministry spokesman Ouk Kimseng’s claim on Wednesday that more than 10 stations would be closed...
