Cambodian woman appeals on Facebook for rescue from Saudi Arabia

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

21 August 2017
- A Cambodian Muslim woman has sought help to return home by posting a video on Facebook claiming she was duped by a company into working in Saudi Arabia for 12 years without being paid or having contact with her family.

The woman, Sos Sanas from Kampong Thom province’s Baray district, says in the three-minute video: “I came here via the company. Now it has been 12 years.
“The company cheated me, did not give money to me. I never talked to or contacted my mother or my family for 12 years.
“Please share my video and help to contact my mother by phone. No one here can get a passport for me. Please help me to return.”

After the video was posted and got many shares on Facebook, Cambodian secretary of state at the Ministry of Labour Datuk Othsman Hassan said he would intervene to bring the woman back.
He said that on behalf of Minister Ith Samheng he was contacting his colleagues at the Saudi capital Riyadh to search for her and would prepare her return...

And Saudi was voted onto the UN Council on Women's Affairs, with the UK, France, and Belgium also secretly voting for them!

OK, that's different then. :)

can you give your reference on this? I tried a bit of searching and couldn't even find the name:

"UN Council on Women's Affairs"

I found this:

The United Nations’ Commission on the Status of Women touts itself as “the principal global intergovernmental body” that’s “exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women."

and this:

"United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women"

Is one of these what you are referring too? I could not find out who voted for who as several reference's noted it was a 'secret' ballot.

how do you know who voted for who?

just sayin'

I find her story a bit unbellievable..... Maybe if she had been locked in a cell with absolutely no outside contact for 12 years it would be more believable.

How about if she was just kept in a compound for 12 years? She wouldn't necessarily know how to contact anyone outside even if she had the means to. I bet there are a whole lot of cases like this which are never reported on.

There were some other Cambodian women recently who were being held as sex-slaves in Japan, but were rescued when they managed to put an appeal for help on FB.These things do happen. It can be hard to contact the outside world.

Aren't the women in Saudi all locked up basically and not permitted to go out in public without an escort ? Think what the situation must be like for a servant.

Indeed. Often they're hired as maids. Impossible to get a simcard without a work permit too. I mean, she probably could have made a move to get out after year 5 but... Who knows.
