That's good news Stroppy. Many were wondering Who'll Stop Lorraine.StroppyChops wrote: ↑Sun Aug 20, 2017 2:06 pm Not to make light of this poor bugger's situation, but I hear the legal counsel that was representing LORRAINE SMITH on an unrelated matter got her sent home.
Counsel was heard on the way to the courthouse to see Martin singing quietly to himself, "I can see CLEARLY now LORRAINE is gone..."

Yeah, I see now they are quite different in design.Khartoum wrote: ↑Sun Aug 20, 2017 10:42 amThe difference between Chuck Taylors and Jack Purcells is that Chuck does a high top as well, whereas Jack is strictly low top.John Bingham wrote: ↑Sun Aug 20, 2017 9:37 amThere are no "low-top Chuck Taylors", they are Converse Jack Purcells.

Converse is the brand. Chuck Taylors and Jack Purcells are two of their lines. Chuck Taylor was a basketball player who helped refine Coverse's design in the 1920s. Jack Purcell was a badminton player who designed a shoe in the 1930s that was much later bought out by Converse. The brand has also produced many other more modern hi-tops etc. The Converse brand is now owned by Nike.

I first met Martin in 06/07 we were staying at no11 Lakeside, and I know this is an overused phrase but yes he was a top bloke, apart from the dreadlocks (the only white person with dreads who hasnt me feel queasy ). I had a lot of time for him and spent many an evening sharing a few smokes/beers, never seen him take anything stronger. I moved back to UK in Oct 2007.
I went on holiday to Cambodia in 2009 and went down lakeside for a look around where I bumped into him, he was running a bar, the dreads were gone but he looked like he was flying. We had a few beers but I'd calmed down a lot since I left Asia and the whole hedonism thing didn't interest me anymore so I quietly left the bar to be honest it kind of felt like (for you old hands) the whole Dave from peacecafe thing.
If you end up reading this Martin I hope you're in a good place if not, I hope you get there. Scottish Jim

I also met Martin on the LakeSide. Sucks he's gotten himself deported, but I hope he gets back to the UK and gets the help he needs.Jim Gil wrote:I first met Martin in 06/07 we were staying at no11 Lakeside, and I know this is an overused phrase but yes he was a top bloke, apart from the dreadlocks (the only white person with dreads who hasnt me feel queasy ). Always came off as a nice guy, and I made a lot of friends through him and his bar back in them days.
Have you been back over to LakeSide lately? I went back a couple years ago and was disused l surprised to see a few of the families still running the same businesses they had been running for years, including my laundry lady, and the lady who had a booth selling top-up cards. She had a few more kids though.

Last time I went was back in '15 i think, and No. 10 was still going like nothing had changed... except almost everything had changed. The lady who ran a little shop and used to sell trees to tourists out of a cardboard box was still there too. Seems like there was a little cut-off point anyway, about where No. 9 used to be, and "Shukaku" were like okay we're gonna dump the sand up to here, for whatever reason.General Mackevili wrote: ↑Mon Aug 21, 2017 5:41 am

're General.
I haven't been to Cambodia since 2009, from 2002 until 2007 I worked 6mnths in uk then spent the next 6 bumming around, mostly Asia from India to Vietnam.
Towards the end I was kicking the arse out of the recreationals so decided to buy a house, do the suburbia thing, god knows I've seen enough walking car crashes amongst expats and I was well on my way to joining them.
