Re: Driving licence
Any updates on this?
I went to Lucky in PP 2 weeks ago and to an agency in Kampot this week for a driving licence renewal but they both said they couldn't do it.
Has anyone had their licence successfully extended in the last 2 weeks either in Kampot, Kep or Phnom Penh?

Re: Driving licence
A close contact took his expired driver's license to the relevant ministry today and renewed it for a year for $10. Gives an indication of how much the agents were making from license renewals.whiteribbon wrote: ↑Fri Sep 08, 2017 4:21 pm Any updates on this?

Edit: According to LL this is now the ONLY way this can be done.
Edit 2: Also explains why that license renewal booth at Aeon Mall was strictly for Cambodians only.

All on the take, and take a little more. I will soon have to get a price on a pineapple.

Re: Driving licence
That's a bloody pain in the butt. Now I will have to make a trip to PP and suffer and stay overnight, as I can't do the trip back in a day plus go to the ministry. That's $200 down the shitter.
I may not bother and just risk geting pulled over.

You can either undergo a driving test for around $180 (or just pay $200 if you don't think you'll pass)

I've heard various stories of barang who know barang who have 10 year licences but I've never actually seen one. It's a myth!
Also, can a 10 year licences get it renewed at Aeon mall?

Re: Driving licence
I'd bet that you can no longer just pay the higher price, given the changes to licenses in the last month or so - so consider this misinformation and ignore it, go for the negative karma if you feel strongly about it.bangkokhooker wrote: ↑Thu Sep 28, 2017 10:45 amYeah and who does this for $200?littlelostgirl wrote: ↑Thu Sep 28, 2017 10:29 amWhere?StroppyChops wrote: ↑Wed Aug 16, 2017 4:45 pm

We had a Khmer business partner who we wanted to hold a license some time ago, and as he only had one functioning eye he was not able to read the eye chart with the other eye - but we were quietly told an extra $20 would suddenly give him 20/20.
At the time we asked if the same was available to barang and were told yes, but the times are a'changing... err... have changed. Also, I believe the written test was in Khmer.

Re: Driving licence
There is an English version of the theory test also.
Re: Driving licence
Maybe only joking with my sceptical reply. BUT English version, any extra cost........And if so. you have passed. Or if English is your first language........You fail.

Re: Driving licence
I'd have gladly paid $35 to Lucky Lucky like the old days than spend 90 minutes dealing with the fucksticks at the driving licence center in Sen Sok, and the other 90 minutes driving out there and back.StroppyChops wrote:A close contact took his expired driver's license to the relevant ministry today and renewed it for a year for $10. The official renewal price has been 30,000៛ for at least 12 months, but definitely wasn't that cheap prior to the law changes in 2016.
Oh, and a staff member at the testing center said that 10 year licenses are available for anyone who completes the 'whole process' of health check, driving test and written test, which might take 'several days' - presumably to frustrate you into paying tea money to get it done quickly. I didn't have several days nor the desire to pay for their pchum ben petrol, so I just did the 1 yr renewal.
If you already have a license, and want the 10yr, I reckon it best to not tell them you have one, and start from scratch. If they see you have one, they'll push you to renew.
