What model/year Ducati is it ?cambo swa wrote: ↑Mon Aug 14, 2017 5:50 pm I have been quoted $2250 as the import tariff to get this bike into Cambodia. I was told that the total is calculated by engine cc, model year, and purchase price. 20% of the US purchase price. Not small but much less than the almost 100% tariff on new cars. Other than filling someone's pockets, I don't understand the economic impetus behind such large tariffs as they are certainly not protecting a domestic car industry or jobs in Cambodia as is the purpose of most tariffs.
Bear in mind, if you ship it from the US as a one off, you will be up for ~$1500 to cover crating, shipping, and various other fees at the US end. Then there's a bunch of fees this end, on top of the import tax.
Alternatively, do a deal with a Khmer importer where they put your US bike in their container. I was quoted ~$1800 a few years ago including import tax. The tax component was around $700 for that particular bike.

Re: Buying a motorcycle in Thailand for Cambodia
car passport is ONLY used to laos and is not asked for nor required for Cambodia.Ronny wrote: ↑Mon Aug 14, 2017 4:41 pm I get your point, Popeye. If you're taking a bike or car or truck from Thailand into Cambodia, you must get a "Passport" for the car or truck or bike and they have to be fully paid for and in your name. And the "passport" is issued for a maximum of 30 days and if you cross the border late your are fine something like $10 every day. But if you don't plan on returning, the real question is how do you go about registering your vehicle in Cambodia and making it legal without paying a small fortune? If you know tell us.
they are not issuing bike passports anymore.
Thai tagged car/bike Legally can only stay out 30 days but i have kept my car out much longer and never had any trouble taking it back to Thailand.
U can only enter at Koh Kong or at Osmach.
so u could easily ride ur bike into Cambodia and never go back ( i am still riding my triumph on Ca tags issued in 1998 here in Phuket) i paid $450 for shipping in crate from sf to Penang back in 99an than rode it into Thailand
BUT u will have no insurance and god help ya if ur in an accident
or
legally import it, which u said is "$2250 as the import tariff to get this bike into Cambodia" than u need pay for shipping it right? so still cheaper than buying in Cambodia and i am sure u can buy more models in the states.
PS i'd love the new Multistrada 950 $14,000 in the states... 619,000 baht in Thailand $18,600

I miss my bikes I had in the UK. But as for the Ducati I would not like to use it on the roads here. Plus where would you get a good service.
Now the Triumph would enjoy here.
But even so it's worth having a look around Cambodia! I have seen some good deals here, such as a Kawasaki Z1000 2015 as new, for $6000.
Yam R1s $3500.

Jesus loves you...Mexico is great, right?
Re: Buying a motorcycle in Thailand for Cambodia
I saw the Z1000s in Battambong, around 3 or 4 in a shop.

For a Ducati sport bike in Cambodia, Bokor's about it for enjoyable riding. Northern Thailand is the closest place for quality winding mountain roads. Laos has the mountains, but only a few roads in very good condition.AndyKK wrote: ↑Tue Aug 15, 2017 12:47 am I miss my bikes I had in the UK. A Multi or Hyper would be a bit more versatile. The most suitable Ducati for Cambodia roads would be the Scrambler/Desert Sled.
Then again, its not all about practicality. I see plenty of full on sport bikes in Cambodia.
Re: Buying a motorcycle in Thailand for Cambodia
^^I totally agree with you. Bokor's a fantastic road, granted I rented a scooter But for a Ducati I would worry about the servicing. If the bike is not serviced properly it will run like shit. New belts and dyno are a must. My servicers in the UK were £850 per year.

Without the person not knowing the servicing or carrying it out. The Ducati is not a Ducati.phuketrichard wrote: ↑Tue Aug 15, 2017 10:55 am one thing BEFORE u buy a Ducati Anywhere, parts and servicing are ridiculous expensive
