Crackdown on Riverside?

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Crackdown on Riverside?

Post by Gilmore »

Almost every time I had a smoke outside my workplace in BKK1 yesterday morning, I was accosted by a beggar or hustler. There were 6 separate instances in all, each involving a single individual.Four were elderly Khmer beggars; two of whom I recognised as riverside veterans. There was also a 60ish American, who looked to be on ice, and a younger, barefoot Australian, who may have been a junky.
I have never seen beggars in these numbers in BKK1 before. The Riverside regulars sometimes move to BKK1 when they are removed from Riverside during events like the Water Festival, but I have never encountered foreign hustlers there before. Is something happening on St. 172 or were they just making an early morning start?

Interesting observation, I haven't heard about any change. Maybe they realized the begging is better in BKK.

Gilmore is obviously part of a TOF conspiracy to entrap them by smoking Romeo y Julieta cigars outside. The smoke wafts down to 172, and indigent teflers follow its scent to BKK.
