are you happy in the KoW?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

wonder how many western guys come here thinking KoW is the holy grail then realised that perhaps beer ,hookers and living on a bar stool can quite quickly turn into an empty wallet a chronic hangover.
probably the average number of tourists.
Is that not what brought you here in the first instance?
Given that it is your favorite content?
not being rude.................

I must admit i am happy when i am there,
but am happier crossing the border back to Thailand. LOL

I guess like attracts like, meanwhile I'm glad to say I never have to deal with people like that.

Well I have to admit there are times when I just want to get out of the country to somewhere that does not have so many problems. Then I think , where can I go . I'm too old to start all over again and besides the only family I have ever had are here. To tell the truth, I would miss the kids and I would feel as if I had deserted them and let them down, so it's a matter of putting up with all the bad shit in exchange for the good. I guess whats really missing in my life is a good companion / wife . They are so hard to find and the only lady I have met in my 13 plus years here that ticks all the boxes, is married .
They do say that the thrill is not at the destination , but the journey on the way to your destination , so I'll continue my journey searching at Wat Phnom and Riverside looking for that second lady that ticks all the boxes.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

@OP Are you happy OP ? You are not in the KOW anymore are you ? But are you any happier than before ? Some people are not happy anywhere. I don't think you can blame a country for your personal level of happiness.

It's been said before, but it's not true that all Cambodian expats live on barstools in Siem Reap. That may be your Cambodian experience, but you should stop imagining that everyone is like you.
my decisions changed about living back in SR when I saw a new breed of barangs hanging on soksan rd at 5am drinking the flat, warm leftover dregs and fighting over the last rancid ladyboy / sketchy hooker in the bar.
Enough said. Most of us don't have this problem, and if we do, then we know that it's not Cambodia that is at fault if we are wasted on Soksan Rd at 5am. Your choice.

Don't you see how ridiculous it is to be complaining about your own choices, when you are so privileged to even have a choice. Nobody is forcing you to hang out with 'rancid ladyboys' and cheap barangs in shitty bars. And even worse, you bitch about them.

Some posters here don't have a choice about living in Cambodia anymore, but they suck it up and make the best of what they've got. They make a life. That's what adults do.
You probably don't understand what I'm saying so never mind.

BTW, the answer to the OP question is yes. Mostly, but not always, just like IRL. Sometimes good, sometimes not :drooling bouncy:

At least you have a place were khmer women lurk wanting to get picked up.

SR has one sketchy dimly lit street (soksan rd) with one 24 hour bar filled with

60% middle age drunk potentiality violent barangs,
20% khmer men in frocks,
10% tuk tuk drivers
10% dodgy khmer hookers looking to rob a drunk barang or meth money.

My happiness in life is not dictated by where I live.

But I certainly am happy in Cambodia.

I disagree strongly. Boomtown areas are full of opportunities, for any who can take them.
