2 Trains Crash in Sihanoukville

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Like those bozos in France who had to rebuild railway station platforms because they didn't measure the train width correctly
Stuff like this everywhere, but as John says, Cambodia basically has one working line. France and other countries have thousands of km of rail and hundreds of trains running at the same time. If they fuck up with one line, it's kind of funny and doesn't bode well for expansion.
That's why it's a probably a good idea for them to practice on the one track for now until they get it right. :Bravo:
On the positive side, the drivers didn't run away this time. On the negative side, there doesn't seem to be any information for the drivers on where the other trains are positioned on the tracks. That shouldn't be too hard to set up. I thought that the rail system was run by Australians ?

I am happy no one was hurt. Now the truck drivers hopefully will take care knowing there are now bigger vehicles then them.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

Two people were killed in a railroad accident in Takeo province on Sunday, with another injured in a separate accident in Preah Sihanouk the same day.

Cheal Phat, Tram Kak district traffic chief, said cousins Pang Pheakdey, 27, and Keo Run, 25, were riding a motorbike, and ducked under a safety barrier as a freight train was travelling through Takeo on its way from Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville. Both died on impact.

“They were hit and dragged for dozens of metres, so they died immediately at the scene. But this railway accident is not the mistake of the train operator. They rode the motorbike… under the checkpoint bar while the train was approaching at the intersection,” Phat said.

The bodies were returned to the families for a traditional funeral.

Later that day, Stung Hav district military official Seng Phoan was injured when a train hit his car from behind as he drove off-road along a railroad track

John Guiry, CEO of Royal Railways, said Pheakdey and Run ducked under the barrier, broke the chain beneath it, ignored shouts and flashing lights, and ploughed straight into the train.

“The army guy thought he could beat the train. Well he didn’t,” Guiry added,

I don't think a helmet would do you much good as you are smeared along the railway line for the half a km it takes a freight train to stop. It might be worth taking a look each way before crossing, though.
