According to PIEMAN he's been free for a while, and the article doesn't mention him being present at the court proceedings.
I'd say anything is possible. I mean, if you can get convicted of such a heinous crime and then just get punished with "time served" which was NO MORE than 8 months, then I'd say it's quite likely PieMan's info is spot on.

I'd say that Mark Smith's immediate concern must be the legal consequences he will face in Britain as a result of his conviction.

Does the UK prosecute its citizens for child sex crimes committed abroad as some other countries do?

Does the UK place travel restrictions on people convicted of child sex crimes as Australia does?

Will his name be added to the sex offenders register?

We don't know all the facts, so making any type of judgement either way is wrong, including yours.

So far no one has come up with any reason why he would be targeted, and that is an important fact.
