What books are you reading?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Authoritarian leaders have become a central feature of global politics. Since 2000, self-styled strongmen have risen to power in capitals as diverse as Moscow, Beijing, Delhi, Brasilia, Budapest, Ankara, Riyadh and Washington.

These leaders are nationalists and social conservatives, with little tolerance for minorities, dissent or the interests of foreigners. At home, they claim to stand up for ordinary people against globalist elites; abroad, they posture as the embodiments of their nations. And everywhere they go, they encourage a cult of personality. These leaders are not just operating in authoritarian political systems but have begun to emerge in the heartlands of liberal democracy.

Been a while since I read this series but I have read them so many times since the mid 80's I could almost write them out verbatim

I replaced the worn out copies with a complete set sometime around 2007/8. I recall buying Shelter of Stone in hardback as I couldn't wait for the paperback to come out!

The above photo was taken before the final book "The Land of Painted Caves" came out... which I read but it wasn't my favorite. She spent pages describing in an almost Tolkienesque way every minute detail but the main plot did move on nicely, just too much about the caves they visited when the main character and her tribe went to a yearly meeting. Still a great series though.

Second time reading it. It's fictional, as it was written before any of the MACV SOG guys were allowed to speak about operating across the fence during the Vietnam war but, it's based on the authors experiences. Recommended if you find that kind of thing interesting.

Edit: it would make an amazing film. If anyone has a spare $100m...

Douglass Murray goes around the world saying; 'Europe is dying and there's nothing we can do about it'. Everyone knows Europe will be majority Muslim in a few generations... May as well read something else.

A couple of 70's British rock and roll memoirs...

Actually, I purchased the Woody Woodmansey book awhile back and have been saving it for a time when I'm traveling somewhere.

Just picked up the Ian Hunter book, which is kind of hard to find, from the website PhuketRichard posted on page 5.

So, not reading either one just yet.
