Another huge mistake by Thailands rulling govement
this new wp thing is going to cause huge economic problems,
not sure about the rest of the country BUT here in Phuket most of the construction is done by Burmese migrants, Much of the fishing industry has Burmese fishermen,
Even the gas station i use only has Burmese employees.
to kick them out will cause the construction industry here to collapse.

https://www.irrawaddy.com/news/burma/th ... iland.htmlCHIANG MAI, Thailand — Thousands of illegal migrant workers from Myanmar have been returning to the country amid a crackdown by Thai authorities.
The migrants have flocked to the Myawaddy-Mae Sot border and other border checkpoints along the Thaungyin River—known as the Moei River in Thailand—since Thai authorities began arresting illegal migrants on June 22, said U Moe Gyo, chairman of Mae Sot-based Myanmar Citizens Affairs’ Committee.
.....
According to the embassy, there are about 4 million Myanmar migrants in Thailand and about 1.7 million of them have work permits.
The Thai government plans to deport all illegal migrants from the country by 2018.

Maybe it's the Thai way of going 'around about' things. It could be that there will be labouring work for white Europeans.
But on a serious note, it's all about progress, the law and money.

Re: Another huge mistake by Thailands rulling govement
they keep trying to get migrant workers to register and it works a bit (obviously the fishing industry and construction companies dont want it to happen)
a register migrant ( from Laos, Cambodia & Burma) is afforded very good rights. these include a 30 baht health care ( same as thai) 90 day maternity leave, an office to report abuse of their employer and guaranteed 300 baht/day + overtime over 40 hour week.
There doing away with the pink cards and now issuing Burmese a Passport (only good for travel thailand)
The problem the government wont admit is, Thai's will not do the work that a migrant will.

They are racist and xenophobic .
Re: Another huge mistake by Thailands rulling govement
Sounds very much like the 80s building boom in Germany (not enough skilled workers and labourers). Middle East (beneath them).

The real tragedy is that those countries don't seem to be able to progress to the point where they can provide enough decent jobs for their own people. Myanburmar was supposed to the NEXT BIG THING 4 or 5(?) years ago, Cambodia has been relatively stable since the '97 coup (20 years ago), Laos has had a one-party system similar to China and Vietnam with a much lower population of around 7 or 8 million for over 40 years. OK, Laos has a number of disadvantages but the other two should really be doing a lot better economically by now and giving Thailand a run for their money, but no...
I wonder what could be holding them back?
You know it's bad when you make a basketcase like Thailand look good.

From taking to the Burmese i know here and friends of mine that run construction companies and use Burmese migrants, there will be a mass exodus in about 2 years when many of their 4 year contracts are up.
Burma has grown immensely in the past 2 years and tourism is way up and the smart Burmese are building. So soon they will have a trained work force. The coast line from Ye south to Myeik is amazing and there hundreds of islands just waiting to be built upon. Not to mention some of the best diving in SE asia
Cant say the same about the Laotians or Cambodians heading back. When my gf got her 2 year L-A visa we had to stop in Aryunaphet for her to do a 4 hours migrant labor course. There over 700 khmers doing that 5 days a week and have been for the past 8 months
For now they all know they can have a better life and make better salaries here than home

Yes the rice fields in Thailand pay four times the rices fields in KoW, but its still a meager wage compared to the west.phuketrichard wrote: ↑Sun Jul 02, 2017 6:46 pm From taking to the Burmese i know here and friends of mine that run construction companies and use Burmese migrants, there will be a mass exodus in about 2 years when many of their 4 year contracts are up.
