You obviously don't like the cuisine here? I must admit I would have to agree with you in the main as far as a lot of street food goes. I think Phucket is right about the KR years, or more importantly, the economic sanctions by the US etc that had a major impact on the Khmer diet. I presume that a lot of the street food would have been better before those times, but I'm just guessing.saigonjackpot wrote: ↑Sun Jun 25, 2017 9:49 amMisleading facts.phuketrichard wrote: ↑Sun Jun 25, 2017 9:33 am $$$
goes back to the KR era when they ate whatever they could find..
Pre Khmer rouge regime Cambodia was economically OK.
Having said that, there are some excellent dishes here. One of my favorites if cooked at hone is pork and pineapple.lol. small cubes of diced pork and pineapple wth various spices etc, and chicken and aubourgine. Truly lovely stuff. I think one of my worst fears here though, is to fall in love with a Khmer woman who's family are atrocious cooks.

Nonsense, the economy was in decline after 1966 and was completely destroyed during the 1970-75 civil war.saigonjackpot wrote: ↑Sun Jun 25, 2017 9:49 amMisleading facts.phuketrichard wrote: ↑Sun Jun 25, 2017 9:33 am $$$

Judging a country's cuisine on a $1 bowl of soup is ridiculous too.

Oh yeah, that's when Sihanouk was siding with China and giving the US the finger. To eat badly in Khmer means to be grabbing/ greedy, and it is not advised to say unless you are joking amongst friends (very telling in itself), or are a good runner.
I'm surprised you long timers didn't get it, I don't even speak Khmer.

Seems like you and the OP are the only ones that got it. I wonder why that may be.AlonzoPartriz wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2017 9:38 am To eat badly in Khmer means to be grabbing/ greedy, and it is not advised to say unless you are joking amongst friends (very telling in itself), or are a good runner.
