Death Island- Koh Tao

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

These islands off Koh Samui were off limits in the seventies. The Thai pirates, read fishermen used to take Vietnamese refugee boats there to strip out motors and Vietnamese women and girls to be raped, murdered or sold on to brothels up and down the country. Some of the stories were horrendous back then. The locals would not have changed much from their murderous ways.
Tourists have no idea of what Thailand is like beneath that thin veneer. I remember being taken to a brothel in the town on Koh Samui and the girls were kept in cages, some would have been Vietnamese or Burmese. Others just Thai slaves.
The Thai fishing industry is run by murderous bastards and always has been.
The Thai Army treated the Khmers fleeing the war extremely badly, extorting, raping and murdering them. Lovely people.

Thailand's Dark Side: An ex-Thailand resident warns that Koh Tao is a no-go zone

http://www.independent.co.uk/travel/asi ... 24171.html
a bullshit sensational piece
The term 'bullshit' is generally understood to mean "untrue".

So, you're saying that "...the murders of British youngsters Hannah Witheridge and David Miller, who were brutally killed on the southern island of Koh Tao in 2014" didn't occur? Perhaps it was just a staged event employing crisis actors?

The other deaths mentioned are just mere rumors, myths or legends?

The author made this part up?:

"Violent attacks on women are also common enough for the Foreign Office to offer this advice:

'Violent sexual assaults and unprovoked attacks have been reported in popular tourist destinations, including in the Koh Samui archipelago and Krabi province. These are particularly common during the monthly Full Moon parties and generally occur late at night near bars.'”

Which parts of the article do you believe are fabricated?

Anyway, there is a non-Thai who may be involved. We should remember that our fellow travellers and expats can also be dangerous:

Cult guru describes final time he saw backpacker alive before she was found 'half-eaten by lizards' on Thailand's 'murder island'

BTW Richard, were you around when Charles Sobhraj was active?

- A backpacker found hanged on a Thai holiday island used a false name days before her body was discovered, it has emerged.
The mystery in to her death deepened today after it emerged she had appeared to try to hide her true identity when checking into a hotel in the days before her death.

Last month, posts on social media said Dallemagne had booked a ticket to Chumphon province, on the mainland, and that her luggage arrived after her death, implying that she had not intended to kill herself. Elise's bags appear to have been loaded onto the ferry she was due to take, and arrived at Chumphon province where she should have caught a bus to the capital.

Michele claims that Elise used a fake name of 'Elise Dubuis' to check into the Triple B Bungalows next to Mae Head Pier on Koh Tao as she travelled via the island on a ferry bound for Chumphon province on her route back to capital Bangkok.
But an unexplained fire that evening burned down three bamboo huts - including the one Elise had been staying in.
Elise fled 2.5km through the jungle to Tanote Bay and took a room at the Poseidon Resort where she booked another ticket for Bangkok leaving on April 24.

Eight days later locals living near the island's idyllic Tanote Bay found Elise's body after becoming suspicious of a monitor lizard going back and forth into the jungle. They followed the animal and discovered that it had been feeding on Elise's remains, which were found among rocks behind the Tanote Family Bay Resort. The backpacker had to be identified using dental records and previous X-rays.

Michele [Elise's mother]says police told her that Elise had been wrapped in old t-shirts or cotton shawls while an empty fuel bottle was found next to her...

WHY use a fake name?
Perhaps she didn't want anyone to know she had arranged to meet up with some guy there for a night of funning. What's the bet there's no cctv footage at the bungalows?

Be careful what you say, Thai expats.

Bangkok - Thai officials have filed criminal charges against a news website for branding the popular beach destination of Koh Tao "Death Island" in reports about a string of murky tourist fatalities.
Koh Tao's reputation as a tropical paradise was first sullied in 2014 when two British backpackers were brutally murdered on one of its white-sand beaches.

A series of other foreign tourist deaths have fuelled press coverage about the island's 'dark side,' with allegations of local mafia and corrupt police colluding to cover up murders.

The latest case to raise suspicions was the death of a Belgian woman in April, which police ruled was a suicide.

Local online outlet Samui Times ran an article last month that questioned the police account and referred to Koh Tao as "Death Island".
The piece quickly went viral and forced officers to re-examine the case.

But island authorities are now suing Samui Times for violating the Computer Crime Act, which outlaws uploading false information online.
The tough law, which carries a maximum prison sentence of five years, is frequently wielded by authorities and business elite to suppress critical reporting in Thailand.

Koh Tao mayor Chaiyan Thurasakul told AFP the website is accused of "damaging Koh Tao's reputation by calling it Death Island."

Samui Times, which told AFP it had yet to be contacted about the charges, defended its reporting in an online post. ..

IN A BID to clear the name of Koh Tao, dubbed “Death Island” where some foreigners have died and gone missing, Surat Thani authorities yesterday held a press briefing to detail all the deaths and cases of missing people there, saying most of the cases were not crime related and were solved.
LOL :beer3: :plus1:
Speaking at the same briefing, Surat Thani Governor Uanchai said that tourists and people could be confident of safety on the island as all the local authorities have made their best efforts to take care of people and tourists.

Thats a pretty good record, the 2000 years before 2014 there were no recorded deaths of foreigners on the island.?
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
