According to the latest report from Kampot police, 6 people were injured in the accident and 3 were seriously injured. The bus is believed to have suffered from brake failure while traveling down the steep mountain road. Kampot provincial police chief Maj Gen Mao MAKTHURA said that the large trees on the roadside blocked the bus and this probably prevented it from rolling down the mountainside into the ravine.
The bus was rented by a private agricultural company for an employees' day out on Bokor Mountain and it contained 27 people including the driver.

Confirmed here that the accident was caused by brake failure :

Dozens hurt in Bokor bus crash
20 June 2017
A group of 27 people on a staff outing were injured yesterday when their private bus came off the road on its way down Bokor Mountain in Kampot province.

Provincial police chief Mao Chanmathurith said the injured included the driver and his assistant.
“Staff from a private company had been to visit Bokor Mountain and were on their way back to Preah Sihanouk province,” Mr Chanmathurith said.
“Unfortunately the brakes of their bus failed as it was descending the mountain.”

He said six of the victims were injured seriously and were sent to the provincial hospital.

Mr Chanmathurith said the bus fell about 20 to 30 metres from the road before running into the tree.

“They were lucky because a big tree stopped the bus from falling further,” he said. “If the tree wasn’t there they may not have survived.”
