I have stayed in Victory hill recently and 10-12 years ago for an extended period. Having said that, If it wasn't for the good old memories i had of the place, and knowing where to stay, i would probably look elsewhere. The place has recently changed quite a bit and the Chinese seem to be taking over the girlie bar area too, meaning evenings comprise of thumping music, noisy Karaoke's, and later night hordes of drunken noisy Chinese. Plus many Chinese restaurants, etc, being created.

Nevertheless, recently when i was there i paid $6 for a comfortable bed, with private bathroom and flatscreen TV. Motorbike rent like $4 daily. Ate the best meals at the cheap restaurants. Had bars and nightlife just around the corner. Downtown and Ochoteal i used to walk to, and plenty of interesting and friendly expats to chat to. Not to mention all the rest.....

So. To the O/P, why did you put up with shit? Why didn't you move out to a better place? Snookie can be a dump, or it can be great. That is entirely within your control, and in YOUR hands.
