^^^ Yes, I did that a couple of weeks ago.Cam Nivag wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2018 9:58 pm Is anyone getting better prices from tuk tuk drivers by whipping out their phones and saying "I'll pay you $1 or I'm using PassApp"? Will they capitulate if you do that or will they still refuse and just sit there and watch you go off in the PassApp rickshaw?
I needed a tuk tuk to take my kids to school one afternoon.
I flagged down a tuk tuk and asked (in Kh) how much to the school?
He wanted $2
I clarified that he wanted 8000 riel to go to the school about 1 kilometer away, and offered 4000 riel.
He repeated 8000 riel.
I pulled out my phone and said don't worry, I'll call a tuk tuk.
He immediately accepted my offer of 4000 riel.
I paid him, and the kids went to school.

My bro in law drives a tuk tuk and says that the yellow/white tuk tuks can charge less because they use gas. Old style tuk tuks use petrol/gasoline.
Sadly this does nothing to make him consider upgrading to a gas tuk tuk.

Considering is one thing. Paying $1000s of money is another. If they make money to eat per day for now is OK.Username Taken wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2018 10:27 pmMy bro in law drives a tuk tuk and says that the yellow/white tuk tuks can charge less because they use gas. There is a bus stop in Goa, at Calangute beach. it is the end of the road, you cannot go any further. When you get off the bus there are tuk tuks waiting and asking if you need one? There is nowhere to go except back. i cannot get my head round why they ask

the quickest way to cross the road is to call a tuk tuk. the baskets always block you off just as you are about to skip between the traffic and by the time you got rid of them the road is busy againtimmydownawell wrote: ↑Tue Jun 13, 2017 1:15 pmHaha so true. The last thing you need when trying to cross busy intersections with tuk tuks and motos coming from every direction is to be distracted by these guys. I wonder how many accidents they cause?juansweetpotato wrote: ↑Tue Jun 13, 2017 12:56 pm the Tuk tuk Sir! Often distracting us when crossing a dangerous street or junction.

It would take around 4 hours to walk from Panjim to Calangute beach. My point is that when you get off the bus it is at the end of the road, a cul de sac, yet the tuk tuks still ask you “tuk tuk?”

Got to agree with you on that one. You wait for five minuets and want to cross in the gap just after the last moto,,,, only to have him slow down and stop blocking your path and asking if you want moto. Gap in traffic gone.

I asked one of my acquaintances who drives tuk tuk by the Royal Palace , he said he hadn't had a customer in 3 days and was thinking of selling his tuk tuk to one of his friends and try something new. The only ones that I know that will discount to similar as passapp are the ones that hangout by my place and see me every day. The others would rather go back to playing cards or napping.
