Phnom Penh Neighborhoods

Title says it, any recommendations on neighborhoods in Phnom Penh. I'm american if it matters. Cheap is good, but not being flooded and having electricity is also good. Are the blackouts and flooding all that bad? How naive am ?

So, American, preferably cheap, no flooding or blackouts... not a lot of information to go on to advise you further.

K, $400 a month or less, wifi preferable, riverside sounds like a fine area, not near the airport. Guess I'll do more research.

I mean, I don't wanna make a boring ass, "find me a home thread." I am curious about the neighborhoods in phnom penh...Maybe I'm being too vague. I'll post sober or something

$400 will get you a very reasonable Khmer house, 2-3 levels, in areas like Boeung Tompun (near Russian Market) or less in Toul Kork. It will also get you a mid-level apartment in the BKK areas or around Riverside. Do stay away from the airport suburbs, they are dangerous to westerners.

Rent a house, you organise your own wi-fi. Rent an apartment, you'll be provided with shockingly bad wi-fi. If you have any great need for unlimited reliable internet you'll need to get your own service, but this is not expensive, around $20 a month will get you fiber to the home.

You MAY get a house with wi-fi and cable TV already provided, but that's unlikely.

You MAY get an apartment with pool and/or gym, but probably not. Another $100 would put you in that market.

Edit: also, search the board for Vladimir's guide to renting accommodation, recommended reading. One of the other members might post the link for you.

I have new studio in bkk2 $280 a month including everything except electric. Even has a lift. Trouble is getting anywhere for less than 6 months. bewary of advertisd prices, some places charge service fee and cleaning fee and internet on top so check before you sign. if you ar not staying long a hotel is cheaper. I know 2 near riverside that will give you month by month for $300-$350 because they are all empty now. that's cheaper than an apartment and you don't have any electric bills, so if you are not cooking get a longstay hotel

Good on you for reporting back, well done, and good observations. Also, you'll find decent hotel rooms for less than $300-350 at the moment, it's dead season. There's another dead season in November, and another in February, and the rest of the year is pretty quiet too...
