American Mark Vandewater Arrested For Blackmailing Man $10,000 To Not Tell Wife About His Cambodian Girlfriend

Phnom Penh, Cambodia: A 67 year old American, Mark Vandewater, from Florida has been arrested for blackmailing his friend for $10,000 over the man's secret Cambodian girlfriend and his Vietnamese wife.

Mark Vandewater is from Longwood, Florida, graduated from the University of Florida where he probably learned all sorts of cool 'tricks of the trade' like blackmail, extortion, best faces to make for mugshots and everything else you have to master before being a graduate from the lawless state shaped like a gun, oh and he's also the Project Construction Director at Mace Group, according to his social media accounts.

Mr Vandewater allegedly sent emails to his friend, demanding $10,000 or he would tell the man's Vietnamese wife that he also had a Cambodian girlfriend when he's in Cambodia. The man decided his best option was to report Mark Vandewater to the authorities, who quickly went to arrest him for extortion.

Mark Alan Vandewater has been sent to jail while he awaits his court hearing which will be scheduled for a later date.

We can only guess he learned the hard way that anyone in Cambodia who you think can afford a $10,000 blackmail scam can also easily afford to have you locked up instead. All of us have probably thrown a whack party here and there, but Mark Vandewater takes the cake every time.

Well, if his friend was dumb enough to have a secret Cambodian girlfriend and a Vietnamese wife, then he may have been dumb enough to pay the $10,000. If you want to play around, why bother to get married?

Where are the photos of that guy?

BTW, the tone of the article is quite unprofessional. News articles should be factual (objective), not "humorous".

He can pay his girlfriend's bride price and then he will be married to two legitimate wives. Monogamy has never been about having sex with just one wife, but about having the children of just one wife inherit from you. The concept of monogamist inheritance has now also been abolished in the West, because it is was simply unfair. All children from all wives inherit nowadays.

Blackmail by Cambodian woman
Postby deepintrouble » Fri Mar 31, 2017 2:14 am

I have a major problem that I need help with.

I taught in Thailand from 2001-04 before returning home to work and then got married in 2008. My wife and I have two kids. Last year i visited thailand without my wife on work trip and also went to Cambodia for one week.

I met a girl at the beer garden in Pnom Penh and took her to Sihanoukville for a few days. We got along well and I added her on facebook. I have many facebook friends including Thai women and its no prob. At the end I gave this girl $50 per day then she asked for $100 per day (saying $50 for daytime and $50 for nighttime every day) but she accepted $50 total per day and seemed OK with that.

I’m home six weeks and get message from her out of the blue saying I owe her $200. I ignored it.

Last week I got a very threatening message from her asking for $1,000 or else she will message my family on FB and tell them we had sex and send them her photos of us from the beach. The photos are not porn but in one photo she sent she is sitting in my lap in a bikini and hugging on me at the beach and if my wife sees that I am fucked. Another photo is a selfie she took in my hotel room and my luggage is behind her with my shirt on top of it.

She knows I am married and has seen photos of my kids and wife on FB. She also knows the names and facebook profiles of my wife, my mom and two brothers and one of my sisters because we have same last name.

I unfriended her and blocked her but she made a new account and sent my family’s names again and told me she will message them photos soon. I wrote back and offered her the $200 and asked how to send it but now she is saying it must be $3,000 because I waste her time or she will message them!

Someone may be helping her write the messages now. Her English in the new account is better and different from before and now she is calling me “Sir” and the last message mentioned God and had the word adultery and her English is not that good.

What should I do? If I send $3,000 she will just ask for more right? It will not end. I never heard of this happening in Thailand. Please help with any ideas.

If it is, I seem to remember they gave him loads of good advice. Lol

That sounds like a Nigerian to me. Did you see her talking to any Nigerians when you met her?

If it gets to the stage where your wife finds out, either from your whore or by you telling her, tell your wife that, whilst holidaying on the Cambodian Riviera, you were befriended by a local Cambodian tuk tuk driver. He drove you around, got a bit over friendly (refer to Violet's 'how do I chuck my driver thread'), and you ended up meeting his family, having meals at their shack once or twice. Your new friend had a sister, and once or twice she ended up spending time with you on the beach (perfectly natural), and on one occasion, she even ended up briefly in your room when she unexpectedly came to call. You became friends with her on FB, left Cambodia and forgot about them all. Then you started receiving requests for money, tuk tuk has broken down, mother is ill, that kind of thing. You politely refused, but then the messages started becoming more aggressive, and then escalated into threats of blackmail involving the underage sister and some highly incriminating photos of the two of you engaging in sexual activity (this is important as if she ever does get to see the photos, she will be expecting to see you banging a 14 year old, so will be relived when she sees that all they have on you are photos of you and a hideous old GSM skank and that they are of a non-sexual nature). Tell your wife that, with the benefit of hindsight, the whole thing was probably a set-up and you now feel a bit stupid for falling for it.

Sorted.

Someone on Facebook says they know Mark Vandewater, worked with him in Vietnam, and think the whole thing is a setup.

Comments from Facebook:
Spoiler:
Is there any evidence for that story (that email f.e.)? Who is that "friend" he tried to blackmail?

This is Cambodia. What use would EVIDENCE be in a courtroom? ;)

Well, he's clearly been arrested based on the pictures, but has not been convicted.

Hopefully evidence will surface in the media.

I know him for more than a year. We were neighbors in Saigon, we also worked on the same project (where he indeed was employed by MACE as construction manager) in Saigon. That's why I think the whole thing is a set-up, I don't buy that extortion story...

Is he employed now? Blackmail seems like a desperate attempt to stay afloat by someone who's got no other options, in their mind.

And are you assuming it's a setup based on the fact that he never blackmailed you, or he talked about how much he hated scammers, or what?

I'm not sure, but he was well paid before. I don't think he ran out of money...

I don't know. There is just someone's statement, but no real evidence for blackmailing...

You just should have stated the facts in your article only, but you write like it's already proven that he is a criminal. So people here call him "douche", "low life piece of shit" just based on your article, without knowing him at all.

People who were well paid before are often the most desperate when they finally find themselves in a bind.

We can only assume there's evidence that didn't make it to the press. I doubt they lock up random westerners based on nothing more than a complaint of, "he blackmailed me!" with not a shred of evidence.

And people run out of money 10X faster than they even think is possible.

We will likely have info from the courts soon enough, and maybe The Cambodia Daily or Phnom Penh Post will have some more details for us soon as well.

That's surely right. Still, please wait with your judgment until there are some hard facts. Do not judge him now (as you unfortunately already did).

Um, we use the word "ALLEGED."

Unless you're brain dead, you would presume him innocent of charges until he's CONVICTED.

Florida is a "lawless state" ? I can tell whoever wrote this knows nothing about FL. Prolly right up there with Texas as having the strictest laws....🙄

Oh no! I hope we didn't fuck things up for anyone who was going to quote us in their dissertation on alleged scammers in Cambodia.

The dude throws lame parties, squeezed between 3 other homo sapiens on a loveseat. That's a fact.

Should I have signed it The Cambodian Onion or something?
