Re: Angkor Wat voted World's Best Landmark 2017
- Cambodia’s Angkor Wat was yesterday named the world’s number one landmark in TripAdvisor’s 2017 Traveller’s Choice awards.
The World Heritage site beat competition from the likes of India’s Taj Mahal, Peru’s Machu Picchu, and St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican City to take the top spot.
The winners of the annual Traveller’s Choice awards are calculated based on the quantity and quality of reviews for landmarks over a 12-month period.
Angkor Wat consistently impressed reviewers among more than two million tourists that visit the site annually.
Thourn Sinan, chairman of the Pacific Asia Travel Association Cambodia, said the award would help attract a new wave of foreign tourists.
“It is a good way of promoting our country to the world,” Mr Sinan said...

Too bad it's starting to look like the Beijing subway during rush hour or Maya Bay Koh Phi Phi, Thailand during low season -
You could be next.

Angkor Wat sees sales surge
4 July 2017
- Angkor Wat ticket sales revenue surged during the first half of 2017 on the back of a sharp increase in tourist entry fees, with no indication that the steeper admission prices had discouraged visits to the Kingdom’s top tourist draw, government officials said yesterday.
Ticket sales for Angkor Wat Archaeological Park generated $52.2 million during the first six months of the year, compared to $31 million during the first half of 2016, according to data released by Angkor Enterprise, the agency that manages ticketing for the historic temple complex near Siem Reap. The data showed a total of 1.2 million foreign tourists visited the site between January and June, about 13 percent more than during the same six-month period in 2016.

Re: Angkor Wat voted World's Best Landmark 2017
Not really, it's a bit more like living in NYC and never even bothering to go and see the Cloisters. Angkor Wat was one of the first places I saw here, after the capital. There was very little tourism going on outside of Phnom Penh and Siem Reap for quite a while.
Silence, exile, and cunning.
