I tried curing my own bacon recently and it turned out...well, not bacony.

^^It came out like slices of salted pork, no bacon flavour and the texture was all wrong. :)

How did you smoke it? It needs about just under 3 hours or so at around 175deg c in a charcoal smoker. Not sure what hardwood chips you would use here, but hickory, cherry and apple are often used.
