Woman hunted for throwing shoe at a poster (UPDATED 2021)
Activist hunted over insult to the ruling party
The Kampong Speu provincial court has issued a warrant for the arrest of opposition activist Sam Sokha for allegedly insulting Prime Minister HE and National Assembly President Heng Samrin.
A 13-second video posted on social media is said to show her throwing a shoe at a logo of the ruling CPP bearing a picture of Mr. Samrin and Mr. HE.
She chants: “They came here to destroy the nation.”
The warrant orders Ms. Sokha, 38, to present herself to police at the Kampong Speu Commissariat before June 8 for questioning over alleged insults and incitement to discriminate.
Ms. Sokha is said to be unemployed and living in Chbar Mon city.
The alleged offense took place this month at Ream commune in Phreah Sihanouk province.
“We are looking for her to arrest her because her action is an insult to the leaders,” Mr. Sak said.
“She threw her shoe at the head of Samdech Heng Samrin and Samdech HE with the party logo.
“Wouldn’t you be angry if someone threw shoes at your head?” he asked.
“She fled after police went to her rented house.”...

I hope they can catch her before she commits more heinous crimes.

Phew, that's a relief. I was concerned she may have been targeting one of the posters on CEO.

Looks dangerous.
And perhaps it could be dangerous. So easy to do. Everyone has shoes, phones and there are posters of him everywhere.

Mon, 10 April 2017
A woman who posted a video on Facebook of herself throwing a shoe at a Cambodian People’s Party sign featuring Prime Minister HE and National Assembly President Heng Samrin has been summonsed by prosecutors and has gone into hiding after allegedly receiving threats.
Sam Sokha, 38 years old, who has been active in criticising the ruling CPP on Facebook, posted a 13-second video of herself throwing a shoe at a roadside billboard in Preah Sihanouk province last week. From the PPP article above:
Agree.Phil Robertson, Human Rights Watch’s deputy Asia director, described the summons as an overreaction: “It’s beyond ridiculous that the authorities are now chasing a shoe thrower and planning to charge her with a serious criminal offense,” he wrote in an email yesterday.
“With this ill-advised persecution, the government has given this worker the gift of instant fame by ensuring everyone will watch her video while also revealing the depth of their paranoia that any act of resistance could spark a wider public uprising against them,” he said.

Man faces court for ruining CPP sign
Fri, 5 May 2017
A 24-year-old man is set to face court today after destroying a Cambodian People’s Party billboard in Battambang province during a rampage on Wednesday night, which ended when officers released a volley of gunfire into the air.
It was about 7pm in Kam Rieng district when suspect Phat Sopheap, armed with a sword and rifle and shouting loudly, zeroed in on the sign featuring headshots of Prime Minsiter HE and National Assembly President Heng Samrin, according to Hang Mey, chief of Village 18.
“He shouted and then climbed up the billboard, which he then toppled to the ground. He then started to tear it apart,” said Mey, who said the act did not appear to be politically motivated. “He was angry with his girlfriend,” recalled Mey...
Separately, police in Kampong Speu said they were still searching for a woman who threw her shoe at a CPP billboard in Sihanoukville in early April.
