The capital’s listed water utility inaugurated a new treatment facility yesterday that will increase its production capacity of clean water by 30 percent, and add to its revenue stream – a move likely to impress its shareholders.

Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority (PPWSA) officials opened the Niroth 2 water treatment plant on the southern outskirts of Phnom Penh, a $61 million complex that will allow the company to produce an additional 130,000 cubic metres of water per day to supply a growing and thirsty city.

The new facility increases the company’s total production capacity to 560,000 cubic metres a day, allowing it to expand services to Takhmao City in Kandal province...

UPDATE: Extension Planned for Takhmao Water Supply
The Royal Government of Cambodia and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Sign a Loan Agreement for Water Treatment
2 June 2020

Cambodia News, Phnom Penh: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance along with JICA Chief Representative SUGANO Yuichi in Cambodia have signed a free loan agreement for a $32 million expansion of the water supply system in Takhmao.
The project aims to improve access to safe water in Takhmao by building:
(1) a wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 30,000m3 / day;
(2) a pumping station with water distribution equipment
(3) automated factory monitoring and water quality control
The Japanese note that the clean water currently supplied to Takhmao is distributed mainly from Phnom Penh.
