regard to ATM Fees, im with Halifax, shnoukieBRO wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2017 5:32 pmYUP, daily withdrawall limits vary if you are a bank cuustomer or not/and depending on your personal credit limit.timmydownawell wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2017 3:58 pm just to clarify:
Maybank for Visa
MB Bank (Vietnamese bank) for Mastercard - I haven't tried this yet
Daily withdrawal limit seems to vary. I could only withdraw $500 at Maybank but some people could get $1000.
I opened a Citibank account in AU because they don't charge a % cut for foreign withdrawals and their exchange rate for the transactions has been pretty good too, so I've saved about $400 in ATM fees plus about 2% of the total withdrawn in the past year.
Jamie has posted previously he uses some FX company to transfer from UK that doesn't charge (or refunds?) fees...
Opening a bank account that gives lower charges is an idea, or simply changing to a new decent 'specialist' credit card. However since i dont currently have a job, that changeover may be difficult for me.
Jamie may use an FX company to xfer money for free, but to get any money from a bank often involves xfer fees. I don't believe one can escape from that. Or can they?
if i take out around $8-90 it was the ATM fee £3-4, + £1.50 for the Currency Conversion,
when i used to take out $290 each time it was £3-4 + around £3.75 Currency Conversion,
Thailand now its pretty much £10 every time i use a machine
i use Rational FX, they give you a rate which is pretty much identical to the actual conversion rate, much better than the banks, the money that gets transfered is usually a little bit shy of the actual quote i think last time it was around $30? but i was transferring $8000 so wasnt a bad price tbh

timmydownawell wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2017 1:12 pmThanks, but I'd be very surprised if ANZR had fee-free withdrawals. All Australian banks are cunts.Jamie_Lambo wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2017 12:52 pm there used to be an ANZ aTM in shv that gave free withdrawls, dont use it anymore as i have an ABA bank, their limit i think as PSD said $1000, the most ive taken out is $800
yep, the one round the corner of Utopia on the left hand side, as you start going down the hill to the tourist police,
used to give free cash withdrawls for my UK Bank card for a few years (as i say i cant comment on what its doing now as i only use ABA now)
it was quite well known for it amongst a lot of people i knew at the time
didnt used to get the same luxury in PP though, they all charged $4-5, even for my Australian ANZ bank card

Some US Credit cards refund bank charges, and have no other charges. Maybe set up a Dollar account in USA??

Re: VISA ATM's fees, withdrawall limits.
When my Visa debit card expired, Citibank AU replaced it with a Mastercard, which is a bit annoying. I had heard that the ATMs of Vietnamese bank called "MB Bank" (not to be confused with Maybank) don't charge a fee so I finally checked it out today. I took out $500 and there was no fee.
The only problem is there are not many MB Bank ATMs around. Apart from their branch on Monivong, there is one on the corner of St 118/Riverside at the Mekong River bar/restaurant, and one on Mao Tse Tong near St 295.

Re: VISA ATM's fees, withdrawall limits.
Thanks for the headsup TDAW.
I've been researching other options for avoiding annoying Bank 'fees'.
Another option is to use prepaid cards, that you load up as and when required. The good ones are from 'Munzo' and 'Revolut', which can be controlled via mobile apps. They work on the Mastercard symbol, and have no charges, and give good rates. So using one of those with a freebie Mastercard bank would be as good as the deal that some are able to have with those Zero fees USA Cards, that us Brits cannot have.
The only issue with these cards is the withdrawall amounts are limited, but having one card of each, means greater flexability, and of course, choice.

Re: VISA ATM's fees, withdrawall limits.
Monzo is a pretty new fx card that claims to have no fees. They must make their money somehow so maybe the fx rate is not great.
Revolut card will still be much better than your standard bank card and worth getting. They offer a near perfect fx rate on the big currencies. Even with the 2% fees on top.
Fair fx card is a little bit worse as its £1 per trans and 1.4%. Would be better for your bigger transactions though. Can get as much as you can normally get out of the ATM with this one. Normally $500-$1000 depending on where in cambodia/ bank
Get two and you'll be fine

OK, Revolut is 'basically free', but costs £5 to have card sent to you. Revolut only charge extra 2% after £200 per month. Yes, that card can seriously be good for cheapscates looking for an incentive to be scrooge like
Yes i know Revolut has limitations, but with a Monzo card there should be enough, unless you are a big spender.

Debit card or credit card? Mine's debit, and they told me they weren't offering the Visa debit card any more.Woody wrote: ↑Tue Sep 05, 2017 9:12 pmI renewed my Citibank AU Visa two months ago and it is still Visa till 07/20timmydownawell wrote: ↑Tue Sep 05, 2017 12:21 pm When my Visa debit card expired, Citibank AU replaced it with a Mastercard, which is a bit annoying.
