After 6 odd years here I just wish they would be a little less obsessed with playing who's the king of the castle. That's something Khmers really do excel at.

Re: what does khmers excel in?
That comment is actually not quite true, the crude birth rate of Cambodia (22 births per 1,000) is not that much higher than that of Vietnam (17.5 per 1,000), lower than that of Laos (24.1 per 1,000) with only Thailand being considerably lower (11.2 per 1,000).

Re: what does khmers excel in?
They have a long way to go to catch up with Zambia at 42.46 births per 1000 or Afghanistan at 38.84hanno wrote: ↑Wed Mar 08, 2017 11:21 am That comment is actually not quite true, the crude birth rate of Cambodia (22 births per 1,000) is not that much higher than that of Vietnam (17.5 per 1,000), lower than that of Laos (24.1 per 1,000) with only Thailand being considerably lower (11.2 per 1,000).

Re: what does khmers excel in?
In general Khmer people are really patient with foreigners - they do try to communicate with people who don't speak their language at all or who speak it badly. Think about your home countries and how people there treat foreigners who speak little or no English.
If you go to a local ceremony or something, they will try to explain what you should do, but if you make mistakes it's no big deal. As long as you engage with them, Khmers are pretty cool about cultural mistakes.
They are also REALLY good at waiting - so many things will come "soon" - Cambodia has taught me patience.
Lots more as well, but that's what came to mind.
