Scuba diving Cambodia
I was wondering how the scuba diving was around Sihanoukville or the Islands off Cambodia, checking out youtube it looks like maybe there was some blast fishing going on over the years? Or is it just rocky with a little bit of coral and fish, couple places looked to have a good abundance of fish. Not expecting anything like Indonesia but thought maybe there are a couple cool coral reefs around, maybe still parts unknown? Over-fished? The reviews seem to be all over the place.

I've never been there, but I've heard Cambodia is nothing special. Way better diving in the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand... Basically everywhere else is better, even out by the islands I was told it sucks.

I have done it off the island. Go ahead and give it a try. Best thing to do pick a good dive shop. They know where to dive.
You pick a lousy dive shop, they only want your money.

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

Re: Scuba diving Cambodia
did it once, didnt do it again, nothing much, ideally a good dive site should provide a particular kind of species that you can only see it there, i.e. manta rays, leatherback turtle etc so as to captivate the interest of the divers
Money is not the problem, the problem is no money

Go with Scuba Nation. One of the first and IMHO best in town. I have dived with them in the past and it was pretty good.

Re: Scuba diving Cambodia
Thanks everyone, I was starting to think it might not be so good, I'm a bit spoiled when it comes to diving. I'll go with Scuba Nation though if I go as I agree a good dive shop matters.

On the one (expensive) occasion that BOM did it in Cambodia, it was like diving in vegetable soup compared
to the clear waters off Yanbu

Re: Scuba diving Cambodia
Why Nov-April? My friend is working in Thailand next month and has a live aboard booked for the Andaman Sea. Thanks I'll check out Burma, I take it that would have to be live aboard too? Or has some dive shops opened recently in Myanmar?phuketrichard wrote:its passable off the islands but i'd never pay to do it

Well the ocean doesn't always like to cooperate with people's dive plans. My dive instructor years ago told me something I never forgot - You have to dive the shitty days to really appreciate the good days. Can't cherry pick the good days, so rough seas, bad visibility is all part of the fun sometimes
