Halo Trust deminer killed, another seriously injured

One Halo Trust deminer was killed this morning on the outskirts of Pailin city and another seriously injured when a mine they were trying to clear exploded suddenly.
Pailin provincial police identified the dead deminer as 55-year-old Loeurng Rasmey. According to Pailin police, the seriously injured deminer was Nguy Thany, a 28-year-old female.

Police first lieutenant Vorn Veasna, posting on the official Facebook page of Pailin provincial police, said the explosion happened in Bahuy Khmer Cheung village in Bar Yakha commune on the outskirts of Pailin city.

According to Mr. Veasna, Mr. Rasmey was killed on the spot. Ms. Thany, he said, is undergoing emergency medical treatment in Phnom Penh after being airlifted from Pailin by helicopter.

Mr. Veasna, in the Facebook post, said the explosion was caused by a Gyata-64 mine, which the deminers failed to detonate.
The Gyata-64 is a Hungarian antipersonnel mine, similar to the Russian PMN mine in design and appearance, used during the Cold War.

Second Deminer Killed in Less Than a Week
by Phan Soumy | January 19, 2017

A veteran deminer was killed near the Thai border on Monday in the second such death in four days, officials said on Wednesday, even as recent data showed a steep drop in overall casualties caused by landmines and unexploded ordnance.

Sous Yoeun, a 38-year-old expert working with the military’s National Center for Peacekeeping Forces Management, Mines and Explosive Remnants of War Clearance (NPEMEC), was killed instantly on Monday while trying to clear a landmine buried under a large tree in Pailin province, according to Sala Krao district police chief Nhek Thol.
NPEMEC deputy director-general Phal Samorn said Sous Yoeun had worked with the group since 1998, including a yearlong stint in 2006 as a member of the U.N. Peacekeeping Forces in Sudan, and was one of 29 NPEMEC deminers who had been working in the region since August.

“This mine site has the most obstacles,” he said, citing the difficulty in uncovering Russian-made anti-personnel mines buried in the 1980s from the roots of a mature tree.
“When a tree is big, it has more roots. When there are more roots, it is one of the major obstacles for deminers,” he said, adding that he believed Sous Yoeun must have accidently struck a mine while digging...

once again, khmers are not known to stick to protocols and procedures.

thus there are not good in these profession as well

doctors, health care professionals, engineers, mechanics, manufacturing etc, basically anything to do well health, mechanical stuff, IT stuffs

basically they shld just stick to repetitive mind numbing stuff like sewing or factory line production, or farming, where they can hapzardly throw a bunch of seeds on the ground and hope for the best.

But in this case the guy was a professional with almost 20 years experience.

It appears that your racism is developing new dimensions. Too bad you weren't born white, you'd have a good shot at the Presidency these days.
As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.
