are you saying that when you apply for a Visa on arrival to Cambodia it will depend on which airline you arrived on at Phnom Penh as to whether they will ask to see your plane ticket out after 30 days?
No, the reports I've heard have the airline asking at check-in for the flight to Cambodia whether you have onward flights. I assume you could just tell them you're taking a bus to Saigon or something. I've always had a visa, so I've never been asked.
that's a separate issue. I'm talking about someone posting a comment that the Cambodian immigration Department now requires evidence of an onward plane ticket from Cambodia after your 30 days has finished (as is now being required much more than before by the Thai authorities regarding an application for a Thai Visa)

This.

Every report I have heard about people being asked about an onward ticket happened when they tried to check in for their flight.

Some airlines won't let you on he plan if there is a chance your visa will be denied.

I think overall this is a rule from the airlines not officially from immigration, but happy to be corrected if I am wrong on this point.
Yes, airlines, not immigration. I believe the carrier is obliged to return to sender if you aren't granted entry.

Right. Well, as Anchor Moy said: no.

Thought so, I also thought the airline was responsible to get you home if the visa was denied on entry but wasn't 100% sure so didn't say it in my original post.

After they've read this thread, the Cambodian Immigration officers will start asking for evidence of onward plane tickets. Could be a good little earner for them (unofficially).

yep its happened to me a few times, once when i was flying from New Zealand to Phnom Penh, they asked to see my visa and i showed them my passport which included about 15 visas trying to explain that i dont need or want onward travel because i live there, but they still persisted, but luckily i had a hotel booked in Thailand for some reason on booking.com within the 30 day period so they accepted that

and recently when i was flying from Chiang Rai > Phnom Penh in December, they asked about my visa, so i just showed them my old expired visa, they didnt check the dates just saw it was multi entry and just went along with it

its only at the check in destination

If you're feeling paranoid, buy a bus ticket for PP to Saigon online from Mekong. Onward travel. Done.
