Fire at Otres Beach 2, Sihanoukville.

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

I wondering, how is the current situation on Otres 2 Beach, because of the fire at the beginning of this year.

Are the resorts, which were damaged still rebuild?

Last report here was this:

But check the FB and travel advice pages of anywhere you are thinking about staying for latest updates. It's always a good idea to have up to date info on any restaurants or accommodation in Cambodia, because the situation can change from one month to another. One place is sold, one place gets destroyed and/or renovated. Just check it out. There will always be an alternative. :)

Ok, thank you :D

Me and my Wife will be on holiday in cambodia next year in February.
We're planning, after 3 days in PP, to go by Taxi to Otres 1 or 2.
We don't wanna book an accommodation in advance, rather we wanna look around and check in, where we like it.

Do you think, that's a good idea in Feburary, or are the most locations, rated around 50-70 US$, fully booked at this time, so that we have to book in advance?

Not sure the situation with the fire damaged "resorts" but Secret Garden, Tamu and Mary Resort were unaffected and are far and away the 3 best places in the entire area. If you are going in February, reconsider your decision not to book in advance or you will almost definitely not find accommodation on 2 and probably nothing even 1/2 decent on 1

Ok, but we just wanna avoid, that we book something in advance and then, after we moved in, we note, that there is a big construction side in the neighbourhood, or such other noisy s*i#...

Maybe otres village is an alternative?
Is it far from there to the beach?
I can't find any helpful maps in the WWW, the streetview from GoogleEarth is from 2014 :?

I agree with Hotdigr.

Feb is busy and many hotels in SHV have been closed and taken over by Chinese Casino operators, so there will less room supply than in previous years.

If you are going to be there on 16-18 Feb you will not find a room unless you turn up early and you will pay 3 times the usual rate. It is Chinese New Year and the town fills up so much people have to sleep on beaches, in hallways on pool loungers (for a charge) and in cars.

five-ten minute walk from the "village" to the beach - the best bit of the beach as just a public garden another 5 mins left or right will take you to the start or end of otres (some people call the start otres 1 the end otres 2 why I dont know)
Right now start of big construction before you turn off for village

Village is also a lot of construction round the area.... its no longer a little quiet village .....plus the trucks moving earth to back fill the big site thunder by all day .... enjoy :beer1:

 Yes, that's exactly the time, when we'll arrive in SHV. Now I've reserved a room, that I can cancel until a few days before we start our journey, so we can see, how the things are going on until next year
