Young woman commits vicious acid attack.

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Yes.

Yes, but mainly against politicos that are a threat to the party in power.

But so many men have multiple wives, I thought it was really common.

The law is mostly irrelevent in this case. What's more important is properly managing the relationships and hierarchy of said wives/gfs, wrt time devoted and especially material aspects. Failure to do so can result in much worse consequences than the application of the law, although women do seem to take out their frustations against each other. They are quite spiteful beings at times.

This entirely correct. The official title of the first wife is a combination of the Cambodian word for wife and a borrowed French word for lady. I.e. prapuon dame.

just curious if they have a word(s) for it.

in thai (I think) it's 'mia noi'

that, (I think), means 'little wife'.

quite acceptable there it seems.

cheers

I'm struggling to understand why the police got involved. Do they see it as a form of domestic abuse?

Taabarang will know better than I do, but they mention that it is "commune police", which I think are the village or local police who "keep order" on a local level - kids misbehaving, marital strife, the village idiot or local drunks etc. It's to do with sorting out neighbourhood problems on a local level.

One friend in Siem Reap told us about his grandpa who had five wives! They all lived in different areas and knew about one another.
