Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Frenchman arrested over death of compatriot on Samui
SAMUI -- Police have arrested a French man on suspicion of killing a compatriot whose body was found near a waterfall on Koh Samui on Thursday morning.

The suspect identified as Paul was the owner of a restaurant on the tourist island. Police are searching for two other men identified as Yves and Michael who are suspected of being accomplices, Daily News quoted Pol Col Paitoon Krajajang, chief of Samul police station as saying.

Pol Col Paitoon said an initial investigation into the killing of the French national, who was in his 40s, indicated there had been a conflict over the restaurant business.

The victim was shot dead before being dumped in a stream about 2km from Tan Rua waterfall in tambon Mae Nam of Koh Samui district.

Mr Paul was the last person to see the dead man before he disappeared, Pol Col Paitoon said.

The discovery was reported to Koh Samui police at around 9.30am on Thursday.

Police called to the scene said the dead man had three injuries similar to gunshot wounds on his neck and a 4-centimetre-long gash on the forehead...

Police: Three confess to involvement in Frenchman's murder

SURAT THANI - Police have arrested three French nationals in connection with the killing of one of their countrymen on the southern resort island Samui.

Samui police chief Col Paitoon Krajajang said Friday the three had confessed to involvement in the Wednesday night shooting at a restaurant of 44-year-old Laurent Lacques Jean Delacherie. Police believe a business dispute was the cause.

Surat Thani provincial police chief Maj Gen Apichart Boonsriroj said the man suspected of carrying out the shooting, identified by his passport as Georges Michel, 65, was captured at Ban Nai junction in Don Sak district on the mainland around 4pm on Thursday while driving a pickup truck, allegedly fleeing arrest. Bloodstains were found in the back of the vehicle, police said.

The other two suspects -- Cyrille Jean Paul Larignon, owner of the restaurant where the killing took place, and Yves Claude Daniel Climent -- are accused of helping to dispose of the body, which was found floating near a waterfall.

Mr Larignon's Thai girlfriend, Nudeang Nakote, said she was present with her child when she heard the men arguing and then heard the shooting.

Delacherie's body was found in a creek at Tarzan waterfall (Nam Tok Mae Nam Soi 5) in tambon Mae Nam, near Tarn Rua waterfall, on Koh Samui district, on Thursday morning...

A quarrel erupted between the victim and Mr Michel, who walked out of the restaurant and returned about five minutes later with a gun. He then allegedly fired three shots at Delacherie.
I've got a question(s) for the Thai members here. Does it seem normal to you that an expat would have a gun? Is this legal in Thailand ?
Or, are there illegal guns available for whoever can pay, or does this mean that these guys are seriously connected to organised crime ?
Just wondering.

Thailand, if you want it, you can get it
not easily obtained, but can be for the right price.

Murder in Maenam Koh Samui, three Frenchmen confess

Three French nationals have confessed to their involvement in the shooting of 44 year old Laurent Lacques Jean Delacherie, also from France.

The shooting took place on Wednesday night at a restaurant in Maenam before the victim was dumped into river, police investigating the case believe the shooting was a result of a business dispute.

George Michel, 65, a restaurateur who operates the La Bonne Franquette restaurant on Walking Street Maenam is suspected of carrying out the shooting. Locally he has a reputation for unpredictable and sometimes violent behaviour and for owning, and shooting guns. The other two suspects are Cyrille Jean Paul Larignon, the owner of the restaurant where the shooting took place and Yves Claude Daniel Climent, both stand accused of helping to dispose of the body near the waterfall in Soi 5 Maenam.

Investigators say that they believe a quarrel erupted in the night of the killing between the victim and Mr Michael, who walked out of the restaurant and returned a few minutes later with a gun, he then allegedly shot Mr Delacherie three times. The trio then allegedly took the body to the waterfall and dropped him into the water. George Michel fled the island the following day taking the Raja Ferry to Donsak where he was apprehended at around 4pm. It has now been reported that all three have confessed to the crime.
