On the Apotheosis of Jack Chick (sadly decd.)

If you have something so weird, strange or off-topic to post and think it doesn't belong in any other forum; you're probably right. Please put all your gormless, half-baked, inane, glaikit ideas in here. This might also be a place where we throw threads that appear elsewhere that don't belong ANYWHERE end up, instead of having to flush them. FORUM RULES STILL APPLY.

Americans, in particular, will find this of interest ...

All - or almost all - the Chick Tracts are online; click on the link in the article.

I guess I'm not a very well read 'american'.

I have never heard of this guy or seen his shazbot.

But I'm not a superstitious/religious person either.

Try clicking on the link given. It may be your only hope of Salvation and Eternal Life.

Chick Tracts are (or were) left as free reading matter in laundromats in the Roslindale area of Boston, presumably by pious
believers anxious that we should All be Saved.

An odd omission: There is NO Chick Tract denouncing the Snake Handler Churches of the Appalachians.

It would be interesting to see Snake Handlers setting up as missionaries in Cambodia.

How can this be said tactfully?

Posh Americans have never heard of Jack Chick (now Called to The Lord in his early nineties) any more than they know
what food stamps look like - but ALL blue-collar Americans have come cross Chick Tracts in places like laundromats

A recent thoughtful article on The Trump Victory* made the point that REAL religious belief is rare among
educated Americans - who are ill-at-ease and embarrassed by REAL religious belief and inclined to equate it with a literal
belief in fairies and dragons.

* Wholly deserving of bolding, italicizing and underlining

How Crazy Wolf, the Evil Shaman, repented his sins and was saved

http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/1061/1061_01.asp

This stuff is addictive!

(However, for the comic to make any real sense, one must be really and truly willing to believe that a shaman living in
the most wretched poverty in a shack on a reservation in - perhaps - New Mexico is actually able to summon demons at
will.
If Crazy Wolf were able to summon demons to do his bidding - or to transform himself into a fearsome demon -
doing a few bank robberies to improve his living conditions would be a good idea ...)

I knew about Chick's comics nearly 30 years ago, and I'm not even from the US. They were famous in the counterculture scene for just being so off the wall, and for having a very clean retro aesthetic.
