Taxi Driver’s Body Found Floating in Kampot Pond

Fishermen on Friday found the floating body of a taxi driver who had been killed, wrapped like a mummy in blankets and plastic, and discarded in a pond in Kampot province, police said.

The body of 28-year-old Khin Ny was found at about 7 a.m. near O’Krasar bridge in Toek Chhou district, the apparent victim of a robbery and murder, according to dep­uty provincial police chief Sao Sam Oeun.

The car has been found, November 5. The victim went missing on the night of October 26 when he was taking a fare from Phnom Penh to Kampot.



Police are pursuing a murder investigation, but the motive remains unknown at the present time.

Surprise! The taxi driver is alive. Police found him by tracing his phone. While his family were holding his funeral ceremony, he was having an affair with a massage worker. He was too ashamed to go home, because he was not robbed, but lost the car and his money gambling.

Update: The confusion over the identity of the body continues. The taxi-driver doesn't seem to be a murder suspect, as he was ''educated'' and sent home.
It is still a mystery why relatives identified the dead body as the taxi driver; but, the body was found after being in water for several days, and the women were expecting to see their brother.
It is more troubling that they say they recognized his clothes - in that case, if there was a body dressed in his clothes, the taxi-driver becomes very suspect. If the body was given funeral rites, we can probably assume it was cremated. Maybe the whole family was in on the disposal of the body and knew the whole time ?
Seems a bit far-fetched, but who knows. A case for Cambodia's finest detectives.
Relatives identified the body as Khim Ny, 28, who carried passengers between Kampot and Phnom Penh.

Teuk Chhou district police secretary Chhun Chhorn said the body had been disposed of in water.

District and provincial police had arrived at the scene. About 30 minutes later, the provincial police chief also came and checked the body to identify it.

“Then two women arrived and claimed that the body was their brother,” Mr. Chhorn said.

The women said they had called Mr. Ny, but he had not answered his phone for the first two days and the line was completely cut off on the third day.

They offered proof that it was their brother from the clothes and they claimed his body which police delivered to them for the funeral...
