More domestic violence - woman killed, husband suspect.

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

This should not be "news", but domestic violence is a big problem in Cambodia. It is especially troubling that the "motive" is often vague suspicions of jealousy. Does this have to do with men's attitudes to women, or loss of face, or both, or other factors ?

Police seek husband over wife’s strangling

Wed, 2 November 2016
Kim Sarom

A 22-year-old woman was found dead in a rental room yesterday, and her jealous husband is the primary suspect, according to Meanchey district police.

Mao Savoeun, Stung Meanchey commune police chief, said yesterday that the victim was found dead in the room but nothing was stolen, leading them to rule out robbery.

Another police official, who asked not to be named, identified the victim as Phat Sreynet, 22, a waitress from Tbong Khmum province. He said neighbours reported overhearing an argument between the victim and her husband – who police did not identify by name – on Sunday, adding the murder was thought to be motivated by jealousy...

Man on the run after brutal killing
29 May 2017
Police in Svay Rieng province are hunting a 31-year-old farmer accused of murdering his wife in a jealous rage.

Song Sopheak, deputy chief of Svay Chroum district police, said So Kon had been out drinking rice wine with friends before he attacked 32-year-old Sok Sopheap on Thursday night.

After returning home at about 8.30pm, he argued with Ms Sopheap, accusing her of having an affair with another man in the village.

“He cut her on the head with an axe several times,” Mr Sopheak said. “He then got a knife and slit her throat.”
After killing the victim, the suspect threw her body in a pond behind their house and fled.

The couple had two children. The eldest, an eight-year-old girl, reported the crime to their neighbours, who called police.
Svay Rieng provincial police chief Sy Kiri said the suspect is still at large.
