A Cambodian Man Arrested For Cursing Prime Minister

Prey Veng: Provincial police had arrested a Cambodian man who posted a video of him wishing ill toward the prime minister HE, on Facebook. He was arrested on 27 October following a arrested warrant issued by the provincial court. After the arrest, he was brought to the minister of interior’s crime bureau. While he was being apprehended by police, he said he knew police arrested him for cursing the government.

A 27-year-old man arrested late last week for insulting Prime Minister HE in a video posted to Facebook was charged by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court and sent to prison yesterday, according to court officials.

Spokesman for the court’s prosecutors Ly Sophanna said yesterday that Ven Sopheap, also called Sam Pheap, was charged with making a “death threat” and “incitement to discriminate” under articles 233, 494 and 496 of the Criminal Code...

Mr. Sopheap’s nearly one-minute-long video, posted in July and discovered by the ministry’s anti-technology crime department in August, shows an effigy of the prime minister next to burning incense with a voice heard saying today would be the premier’s last day...

Man to Stand Trial for Alleged HE Threats

A 27-year-old man is facing up to five years in prison after being charged over a Facebook post that allegedly threatened the life of Prime Minister HE in an attempt to incite violence against the premier, officials said on Sunday.

Two-Year Sentence for Migrant Worker Who Posted PM Death Threat

A Phnom Penh municipal judge on Friday sentenced a 27-year-old man migrant laborer to two years in prison over a post to his Facebook page that threatened the life of the prime minister.

Presiding Judge Ly Sokleng also fined Ven Sopheap 2 million riel, or about $500, in a case that was noteworthy because no complaint had been filed, in comparison to Facebook threats against opposition leader Kem Sokha last year that were dismissed by authorities who said they had no ability to investigate the case without such a complaint...
