Kingdom’s rubber exports bounce high in first half
16 July 2018
Cambodian rubber exports surged 21 percent during the first half of the year, compared to the same period last year, the Ministry of Agriculture said on Sunday.
Local producers exported 84,419 tonnes of rubber during the first six months of this year, an increase of 14,376 tonnes compared to a year earlier, said Pol Sopha, director-general of the Rubber Department at the Ministry of Agriculture. Total rubber cultivation was also up, at 436,299 hectares.

What I hear is Chinese farmers have gone in heavy on rubber farming. Again for export for their own market.
Is there any truth in this?

Only speculation on my part, but I somewhat doubt it. Rubber takes a very long time to turn profitable, at least 10-12 years before a plantation begins to pick up in output, and I haven't heard of any Chinese buying up land and cultivating it here for that reason yet.

Speaking of low prices, pepper out of Memot is around 10,000៛ a kg at the farm gate at the moment. This time last year was closer to 40,000

No Chinese investment here yet, besides the hydro dams.AndyKK wrote:How many Chinese have rubber and pepper in your area?Barang chgout wrote: ↑Tue Jul 17, 2018 3:32 pmPepper seems funny like that, hard to predict.epidemiks wrote:Speaking of low prices, pepper out of Memot is around 10,000៛ a kg at the farm gate at the moment. Like I say just asking the questions? I was told by a few people (could be speculations or bar talk) down from the dam and the road to Tati, They are running the existing plantations.Barang chgout wrote: ↑Tue Jul 17, 2018 6:28 pmNo Chinese investment here yet, besides the hydro dams.AndyKK wrote:How many Chinese have rubber and pepper in your area?Barang chgout wrote: ↑Tue Jul 17, 2018 3:32 pmPepper seems funny like that, hard to predict.epidemiks wrote:Speaking of low prices, pepper out of Memot is around 10,000៛ a kg at the farm gate at the moment. It also made me wonder! This! Two places now I have witnessed. One when I was in the Sangkat, a bag of Chinese passports were emptied on the desk. I was told to return the day after to apply for my document. Same again in the works and labour department.

Actually the Chinese do, a few hundred hectares near Oh Pong Moan have changed hands a few weeks ago. But it's true a plantation takes some time before it has any serious output. Even though rubber trees are extremely fast growing trees it takes at least 6-8 years before you have some rubber.GTC7 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 17, 2018 6:40 am Only speculation on my part, but I somewhat doubt it. The amount of pepper offered on the market has increased considerably over the last five years. Many farmers in the Northeast switched from cashew nuts to pepper. Around Ban Lung alone there must be over 100 hectares of pepper already, and the farmers are complaining too about the prices.Barang chgout wrote: ↑Tue Jul 17, 2018 3:32 pmPepper seems funny like that, hard to predict.epidemiks wrote:Speaking of low prices, pepper out of Memot is around 10,000៛ a kg at the farm gate at the moment.
