Appeal Court Upholds Injunction on Russian Tycoon’s Property

by Aun Pheap and Janelle Retka | October 18, 2016

More than a year after fugitive Russian tycoon Sergei Polonsky was deported from Cambodia, he has scored a legal win against his Sihanoukville-based rival, prominent Russian businessman Nikolai Doroshenko.

A year-old Preah Sihanouk Provincial Court ruling freezing five of Mr. Doroshenko’s Sihanoukville properties—worth approximately $6 million—over the alleged violation of a 2013 contract transferring the real estate to Mr. Polonsky was upheld by the Court of Appeal, according to a statement dated October 10.

The irony is they are more than happy to accept your $ for condos they can not sell. Legally that is.
An Ozie friend of mine went to look at a model of the condos on the hill complete with airplane. They have table top model of complex, artists renditions, paintings all very nice. A beautiful gift shop & some old Detroit iron quasi museum.

But not one finished model to walk you through.

Russian Prosecutor Seeks Eight-Year Term For Real Estate Tycoon Polonsky

A Russian prosecutor has demanded a prison term of eight years for real estate tycoon Sergei Polonsky in a high-profile embezzlement case.

The prosecutor also asked the judge at a Moscow court on June 20 to fine Polonsky 900,000 rubles ($15,500).

Polonsky was charged in June 2013 with embezzling more than 5.7 billion rubles ($98 million) from dozens of property investors.

And in May 2015, he was extradited from Cambodia, where he was living in self-imposed exile.

Polonsky has rejected the charges, saying the case against him was aimed at taking control of his holdings.

Polonsky made headlines in 2012 after another Russian tycoon, Aleksandr Lebedev, punched him on a live television show.

Also in 2012, Polonsky and two associates were arrested in Cambodia and charged with beating...

...Polonsky gets 5 year sentence from conviction in Russia...

"Sergei Polonsky, the flamboyant Russian businessman once jailed in Cambodia for allegedly threatening a group of boatmen with a knife, was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment in a Moscow court yesterday for embezzlement, but was immediately released because the statute of limitations for his crime had expired, according to Russian media outlets."

Er, doesn't statutory limitations cover charging someone with a crime, rather than having done all that and proved him guilty? Otherwise there's a load of people in prison they need to let out. I guess he had the $15k in his pocket for lunch money.

A Russian Billionaire Who Once Ate a Tie Is Running Against Vladimir Putin
• 11/08/17 2:13pm
Another crazed billionaire has entered the political arena, this time from Moscow. Property developer Sergei Polonsky announced plans to challenge Russian President Vladimir Putin during next year’s election. Polonsky has garnered a reputation as a rambunctious tycoon. He is known for mocking anyone worth less than a billion dollars (a fine line when his own net worth was estimated by Forbes in 2008 at $1.2 billion) and eating his own tie after losing a bet.

Polonsky founded Potok, a diversified corporation involved in larger development projects (the Federation Tower in the Moscow International Business Center was a project the company helmed). In 2013, Polonsky was charged with embezzlement after reportedly defrauding clients and investors of 2.5 billion rubles ($42 million). Several months later, an international warrant was issued for Polonsky’s arrest while the developer was residing on a Cambodian island.

Since Russia did not have an extradition agreement with Cambodia, the Prosecutor General’s Office spent two years trying to bring Polonsky back to Russia. Upon his extradition in spring 2015, Polonsky was placed in a Russian prison where he awaited trial. This July, a Moscow court found the billionaire guilty of fraud, but let him walk free since too much time had passed.

“I plan to turn the world upside down,” Polonsky said after walking out of court...
