Sushi in Snooky

Post by rozzieoz »

Name: Shin
Address: Village4 Square4 Serendipity Road, Sihanoukville
Telephone: 086 708 580
Opening hours: 11.30am - 10pm
Cuisine: Japanese
Rating: 5

I cannot praise this restaurant highly enough! If you like sushi, you HAVE to treat yourself when you are next in Sihanoukville.

I have eaten sushi in a lot of places around the world, and I have to say, this is one of my absolute favourite spots.
The food is always fresh and delicious with the same excellent service each time I go, which is about once a fortnight.

The story as it was told to me is such a great Cambodian tale.

As I heard it: The restaurant was originally owned by someone else, with a brilliant Japanese chef.
They did an all you can eat sushi buffet which was fabulous (I LOVED this!), but the chef and the owner did not get along too well.
One day, they had one too many fall outs and the chef quit.
Quality went downhill until the owner had to sell.
The chef, using a "middle man" bought the restaurant from under him and restored it to its former glory in no time at all. He is obviously passionate about what he does, it certainly shows in his product. :)

There are also restaurants at Queenco and Victory Castle, both have the same level of excellence but slightly different menus and specials.

My regular order is the special sushi platter with Miso soup, two salmon rolls (yes I am a piglet) and two Malibu and cokes, and it comes to around $18. (I cant remember the price exactly but I always get change for a $20, even with a tip). I don't have to order anymore, they remember my order each time. :)

I can highly recommend Shin! :)

my favourite is kuhai, its in 7makara st, in a non descript house, the chef is japanese, his menu is very very limited, his shashimi has only 2 or 3 kinds, depending on the freshest catch of the day, and it changes everyday depend on availability as well, the rest of menu he does it very, I think he adhere to the thinking that you do a few dishes and do it well.

Nice review! I stopped going a long time ago as the quality dropped, but will head back and check it out again. Best value for sushi in town if it's back to snuff as when it opened! Kukai is good but no rolls. Sushi cafe is good but expensive. Sushi bar is mediocre. Samurai is mediocre aswell (although I heven't been in over a year). There's a place in Otres aswell, haven't tried it though.

I met someone at Shin last month, didn't order sushi but they had some, I must admit it didn't look the greatest, not saying terrible, just not top notch. Kind of same as the photos, sushi is 80% art, 20% freshness. Is it Sushi Cafe, then? Knew it was cafe something, the one up from Lucky Ocean. Yeah, a bit pricy but pretty damn good, nice sake selection, give the pickled shrimp starter a miss but otherwise great. Nice, clean tempura. Samurai the service was slow and the food not very well presented, although otherwise was ok. Isn't there a place pretty much across the road from samurai? Is that Kukai?
