Oh NO!, my old fave Hyundai Mao Legacy appears to have changed it's name to Hyundai Agro.

Why?
It was a perfect excuse for the backwardness of Cambodia's mango industry.

Feature: Mangoes lead the way, Cambodia eyeing opportunities on China's agricultural market
Source: Xinhua| 2020-12-10 11:26:24|
by Mao Pengfei, Nguon Sovan

KAMPONG SPEU, Cambodia, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- How long does it take to peel a ripe mango? For Cambodian workers, the answer is "a few seconds," too fast to be seen clearly.

At the Long Wo Fruit Industry Co., Ltd. in Western Kampong Speu province, ripe mangoes are peeled, sliced, dried and packaged, and then sent to Chinese consumers thousands of miles away.

Lu Song, general manager of Long Wo Fruit Industry Co., Ltd., said the company began exporting dried mangoes to China in 2017 and that with the increase in market demand, the export volume has risen rapidly, reaching about 1,500 tons per year.

"Although the COVID-19 pandemic has affected sales this year, there is still strong demand on the Chinese market for Cambodian dried mangoes."

Lu hopes to use dried mangoes as a star product to open up the Chinese market, gradually establishing a complete industrial chain covering mango planting, processing, and export, and extending it to more fruit-related products.

Chen Qisheng, general manager of China Certification & Inspection Group (CCIC)'s Cambodian branch, said that thanks to the free trade agreement signed between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Cambodia's dried mango exports to China enjoy tariff preferences.

He said currently, there are more than 20 Chinese companies engaged in dried mango processing in Cambodia.

Three mango farms qualify for Chinese SPS checks

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries plans to submit a list of three mango farms to experts at China’s General Administration of Customs for a check of their meeting sanitary and phytosanitary standards (SPS).

This will be the first phase of its kind at mango farms with packaging capability that use hot water treatment in pest eradication. Three farms qualified fro submission by passing SPS quality checks made by Cambodian ministry experts

The team inspected four farms but only three farms passed the check. Another one failed and was deemed as needing to address some points in order to be qualified,” said Cambodian Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Veng Sakhon.

In the next phase, a list of 25 mango farms will be submitted. Sakhon did not mention the specific timeframe for the visit of the Chinese experts.

AKP Phnom Penh, March 12, 2021 --

The People’s Republic of China is speeding up assessment reports of Cambodian mangoes to allow imports to the Chinese markets.

The pledge was made recently by a China’s customs delegation from Guangxi province following a virtual review of nominated Cambodian mango farms.

The process was facilitated by a working group of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries’ General Department of Agriculture in order to push the fruit exports.

Cambodian mango exports licensed by China, putting Vietnamese mango export under stress
China has arranged a deal for Cambodia to export about 500,000 tons of fresh mangos to the country, according to reports.

After more than three years of negotiation, the Cambodian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries and the General Administration of Customs of China officially accepted 37 companies with mango farm and five companies with fruit packaging and processing factories to directly export mangos to China. Mango is Cambodia’s second largest fruit export, after bananas.

Cambodia’s Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries Veng said the companies had enough capacity to export 100,000 tons of mango to China each year.

First direct shipment of famous Cambodian mangoes arrives in China's Guangxi
Saturday, 22 May 2021
6:45 PM MYT

NANNING, May 22 (Xinhua): The first batch of fresh mangoes exported from Cambodia directly to China arrived at the Qinzhou Port in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Friday (May 21).

Transported in six containers, the mangoes will be sold in markets in Beijing, Henan, Liaoning, Zhejiang, Shandong and other regions across China.

The shipment reflects the growing agricultural cooperation between the two countries, with mangoes the second fruit after bananas to be directly exported from Cambodia to China.

The Qinzhou Port is a key point on the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor and along the Belt and Road. In recent years, the port has opened several fruit shipping express lines linking China with Thailand, Vietnam and other Southeast Asian countries to facilitate agricultural products' exports to China, said Chen Silu, general manager of the Beibu Gulf Port Group.
