Police Find Woman’s Body Near Vietnamese Border

Police say they are investigating the suspected murder of a 30-year-old Cambodian woman whose body was found on Sunday by officers on patrol along the Vietnamese border in Mondolkiri province.

Sun Bun Thoeun, Keo Seima district police chief, said the body of Kret Sreymom, a rice farmer, was found in the afternoon, naked from the waist down and facedown across a pathway in a forested area close to the border.

Mondolkiri Teen Confesses to Murder of Sister-In-Law

The brother-in-law of a Cambodian woman whose body was found by police officers patrolling along the Vietnamese border on Sunday has confessed to her murder, officials said on Tuesday.

The body of Kret Sreymom, 30, a mother of three, was found naked from the waist down across a path in a forested area near the border in Mondolkiri province, officials said...

Mr. Tey “admitted to murdering his sister-in-law” and said the woman’s clothes came off during the attack, he said.

Rape-Murder Suspect Arrested

Brigadier General So Sovann, chief of the provincial penal police, identified the suspect as Ty Tey, 19, a rice farmer from Kratie province’s Snuol district and the younger brother-in-law of the victim. He was arrested at his home in Snuol district.

“During questioning by the provincial police, he denied raping the victim, but confessed to killing her,” Brig. Gen. Sovann said yesterday.

“He confessed to beating the back of her neck with a stick many times, breaking her neck. He then dragged her body into the forest and escaped on a motorbike.

“He said the reason he killed her was because he got angry that she often cursed him and looked down on him.”

When asked about the woman being found naked, Brig. Gen. Sovann said the suspect claimed her clothing came off when she fought him prior to her death.

However, district police chief Major Keo Bunthoeun said according to an examination of the victim’s body, she was raped before being killed...
