A hard to believe case of a British teacher convicted kidnapping, trafficking and sexually abusing children who gets a wrist-slap. How sick. Community service FFS - why not at an orphanage while they're at it ? The whole thing is ridiculous. Hopefully, he can also be tried in the UK and receive a more appropriate sentence.

British teacher spared jail after trafficking children into sex slavery in Thailand

A British teacher has been spared jail after kidnapping children and using them as sex slaves in Thailand.

Fabian Frederick Blandford, a 64-year-old former Buddhist monk, was found guilty of carrying out sex abuse against minors in a court in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

He was also convicted of trafficking children for prostitution and pornography.

However judges sentenced him to four years and two months, suspended for three years – meaning that he will only go to jail if he commits another offence in that time.

Blandford had direct access to young children, the court heard, because of his job working as an English teacher in the country.

Fang Provincial Court in Chiang Mai heard he was seized by police last January after officers found hundreds of indecent images of children on his computers.

His crimes were discovered thanks to a tip-off from the US Department of Homeland Security, prosecutors said.

Investigators in the US had found paedophilic images belonging to an American suspect that had been sent from an IP address used by Blandford.

Blandford was ordained as a monk in Chiang Mai, but had left the monastery to get married to a woman with whom he now has one child.

He was also fined £1,825 and ordered to carry out 48 hours of community service.
