Politically-correct nursery rhymes (the 'Spectator' competition)
Not a terribly original idea but good up to a point ...
http://blogs.spectator.co.uk/2016/09/sp ... ry-rhymes/
The competitions in the 'New Statesman' decades ago were far better -
FOR EXAMPLE:
take a news item (Nun-running*) and
write in the manner of Graham Greene ("He thought of their slender brown bodies...") and John Buchan
("I'd gladly take a sjambok to a swine of that kind!") but now the NS is edited by a man who truly believes
(or pretends to) that The Perfect Man ascended into Heaven on the back of a horse.
Times change and not always for the better
^Nun-running: It was reported - quite truthfully - that the Church of England was importing nuns recruited
by the Church of South India to be cooks and servants in Anglican convents
