Flood alert and heavy rains for some provinces.

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Lol. Good point. Since it's from HB, it's probably SV but I didn't recognise the photo so thought it must've been PP. Someone here should know. Raining in SV everyday at the moment so that makes sense. I am still housebound so haven't been out to look.
It's Kampot.

Yes UT totally my bad. It was translated 'City' for me by my faithful translate which led me astray.

@Lurcio - do u doubt my fantastic weather casts ? You are probably right, but I'm in training. Raining now where I am in SV, but tapering off to light shower at 20:30 - didn't see any sunset tho. :unknown:

Ok, I give up my future career as weatherperson. Tomorrow is another day.

Not doubting you

I live in Downtown and missed any heavy rain although it is drizzling now. It often seems to skirt around us here maybe shielded by the hills or the heat rising pushes a lot of it away.

Why would Kampot have a flooding problem ? I thought that the water would quickly drain away into the river, or does this only happen when the river is in full tide ?

Just asking .
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

I suppose its like the rainwater that tries to drain away quickly into the river in PP - the garbage is blocking the drains, especially in areas like markets.

The problem with that theory is the water in PP has always flowed inland, away from the river, into lakes that have now been filled in and built on. Unlike Kampot where the water has always flowed towards the river. I'm just guessing.

Most of the locals blame the flooding on the dammed dam.

KAMPOT - At the Annual Meeting of Disaster Management Annual Meeting 2017, held at the Kampot Provincial Court Hall on May 2, 2018, His Excellency Senior Minister Nhim Vanda, Chairman of Executive Committee of the Management Committee Disaster, Deputy Superintendent of Sinohydro, said that the Kampot dam has contributed significantly to prevent and reduce the flooding downstream that always occurred every year in the past. The company has made every effort to reduce the impact of flooding in the rainy season.

Samp Sarath, deputy governor of Kampot province, said that with due care and precaution for the disaster, Kampot authorities have cooperated with partner organizations in installing a flood-level measurement system and early warning systems which are in Andong Chyngun village, Kampong Keng commune, Teuk Chhou district, below the hydropower dam Nicchi.

With the report mentioned above, Senior Minister Nhim Vanda said that in addition to these concerns, Kampot's disaster management committee should advise local authorities to continue education, disseminate knowledge to the people, giving them access to any information before an incident happens.
