1 year Vietnam visa

Do you have a Cambodian trip report you want to share? Post it here, and feel free to link to your blog if it's a travel blog for Cambodia, South East Asia, or anywhere really. You can ask and answer questions about travel advice in Cambodia or just share your pictures and videos with us. Most people who live in or visit Cambodia have also checked out nearby countries like Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, and you can get to most of these countries by traveling overland, so put any travel plans, reviews or questions here. Discussions about dirt bike trails in here as well.

where do they get $210?
Commencing August 29, American visitors to Vietnam are now charged $135 for a one-year multiple-entry visa, no matter whether they have come for a short holiday or on business.

Another fun-filled adventure in Southeast Asia:

American expat recounts Vietnam visa run nightmare
http://tuoitrenews.vn/city-diary/30242/ ... -nightmare

Not sure why he was allowed to get a 3-month visa since the news is that all Americans have to get the one-year visa.

The dude concludes with "I love living in Vietnam..."

The $210 is, I presume, $200 (the price the embassy is charging) plus $10 (service charge of the travel agent).

When you or someone you know gets the one-year VN visa for $135, let us know. We'll appreciate the information. :good:

More complaints about the VN visa and tourism in general from a barang named Stivi Cooke:

Short-term madness in Vietnamese tourism :P
http://tuoitrenews.vn/city-diary/37024/ ... se-tourism

Here's Stivi's (is this a guy or gal?) heart-stirring conclusion:
You have choices, Vietnam. Build well and with a sense of pride you have in your country. Not a 40-story high concrete block overshadowing a beach.

Let the tourists come and choose from a range of visas (or visa free) for 30 to 90 days without this border run nonsense.

Even if only a few Vietnamese consider what I write here and begin to encourage a better way – it will be still worth it. As the Vietnamese proverb goes: “You catch fish with TWO hands.”
BTW, here's how they party in VN:

VN consulate today. $220. 1 yr. M. E. but must border run every 90 days.
Online. I read of a $50. less program of download & print form &you present in VN +$135. stamping fee. Fine stamps they are. They use nothing but the finest inks available.

Then.. I read the yrly visa is the ONLY visa issued to zits of the USA. On the lexan partition was the 1-3 mnth or other visa options. :please:
Back to consulate tomorrow. I am on a mission. 8)

Sorry Luigi, I'm not quite getting this report. You're going for a 1-year VN visa tomorrow? at PP consulate? Or Sihanoukville? Anyway, all reports very welcome. I definitely want to know what's available at this time for non-Americans.

Though since that time, Sep 2016, I have heard they withdrew that one year minimum visa requirement for USA and one can get a shorter stay visa though still at a relatively high price it seems. But the particulars and price seem to be somewhat unclear from all my reading. i don't plan to do anything prior - like not even a visa letter which seems to be the minimum requirement . I am interested in hearing if anyone knows about any USA person being denied entry into Vietnam ? Could you imagine that ? A USA citizen being barred entry because of something as silly as no visa ? That would be unbelievable though in a way from usa requirements on them entering usa you may not blame them. But i would think from dollars and sense point spent by Caucasians in Vietnam would win over that issue or would it ? I have already paid for a ticket from Manila with a 9 day stop over in Vietnam on way to Phnom Penh.

why would anyone buy a ticket to somewhere via a stop somewhere and not know if they need a visa and make sure it can be obtained??
try and get into Cambodia , Laos or Burma without a visa, no different for Vietnam.

Good luck zmth. You will be turned back, assuming the airline even lets you on the plane.
