Arrested Barbershop Staff and Owner Confess to Selling Sex

Eleven women working at a Phnom Penh barbershop—including the owner—confessed on Wednesday to having sex with patrons after the establishment was raided by anti-trafficking police on Tuesday, officials said.

Police said the raid was carried out in response to a complaint filed with them last week, although a neighbor said the salon in Daun Penh district had been operating as a brothel for more than a decade, and that she had told authorities about it months ago.

Owner of Barbershop Brothel Charged; Shop Remains Open

The Phnom Penh Municipal Court charged the owner of a brothel fronting as a barbershop with procuring prostitution on Friday morning, a day after the woman’s husband reopened the shop, according to officials.

The previous owner, Chan Thea, 44, was arrested by police during a raid of the shop in Daun Penh district on Tuesday, along with 11 Cambodian and Vietnamese women working there, according to Keo Thea, chief of the city’s anti-human trafficking police bureau.
